Seriously, fuck the escapist. They sensationalise almost as bad as fox. They are acting as if it doesn't have a server browser at all and most on the forums are complaining as if it is so. Gah that place pisses me off so much sometimes. Why do I keep going on it?

I wonder how this will work. If the time between clicking the join button to the game loading the map is short, I don't see this being a problem. I do hope BF3 has an in-game menu though, for when I'm not on Battlelog so that I can change the graphic settings, and other options.

Re: Battlefield 3 PC wont have in-game server browser..

I'll tell you how it works. You bring up the webpage and log in using your Origin ID. This opens the Battlelog page. To join a game, you can either click the massive "Play Now" button, or go to the server browser and join a game. When you click "Join" on either, a little window pops up in the Battlelog toolbar at the bottom of your screen that tells you the progress of your joining. Once it goes through the "Finding server" and "Connecting" stuff and actually starts to load the map, the game will open in a separate process, but doesn't maximize yet (so it stays in the background). During this time, the map is loading. Now, you can either maximize the window and watch the map load screen, or you can wait until the map is fully loaded in the background and you are at the spawn screen. If you wait, Battelog will open a prompt when it is fully loaded saying that it is ready, and if you click it, the game will maximize to the spawn screen. You can also check a box to automatically open the game when it is ready. Or, if you would like, after the game is fully loaded, you can continue browsing on Battlelog or doing something on the internet. I did a few times. Sometimes if I was reading a forum thread, near the end, I would open Battlelog and get it to load a server in the background, finish reading it, and then instantly being in the game.

Should also be noted that whole process is QUICK...it took about 30 seconds from the time I decided I wanted to play the alpha till I was ingame. Theres no menus or loading screens or any of that crap to load so the game fires right up within seconds. Its not a bad system at all, and the more I think about it the more I prefer to the old system of having to wait for the game to start....waiting for all the dice and ea logos to load then going into the movie...waiting for the log in screen to come up..waiting(forever) for the game to actually log me in....then finally looking for a server and loading the map.

This way is so much faster. For those wondering about graphics, you can change them ingame, no need to exit the game to raise or lower your graphics.

Doesn't bother me one bit. I was in the Alpha and this process didn't matter at all. it was nice and quick.

Still cannot believe some of the news sites about this "Want to browse for servers in BF3? Too bad". Shit like that fuels ignorance. Its no wonder everyone hates fox, so why must places like the escapist do it to?

Fucking hell I've been going on an Escapist rant for the last 2 days or so. That shits not healthy.

No its not. Dont worry about it. The game has a very functional out-of-game browser that makes Battlefield 3 faster loading than any other FPS game Ive known. If people want to gripe about that, then they can stick to any other game instead.

Battlelog is nice. It was honestly the best server browser for any BF game I've used so far. If you we're to make a shortcut on your desktop and have Battlelog autologin you'd be looking at a server browser in a matter of seconds.

False. I didn't and do not like launching the game this way and I have used it.

It worked, but it's not ideal in my opinion.

                          1) alt-tab/alt+f4 is not as fast as pressing escape WRT finding a new server to play on. It just isn't. Demize can say it is as many times as he wants, but that won't make it true. This is doubly true if you game at a different resolution than you use for your desktop; this is primarily people with older hardware who can't run the game at their LCD's native resolution. They'll be hit by the double whammy of having a computer that takes longer to alt-tab and the fact that the resolutions don't match which takes more time to switch as well. Demize may not care, but I suspect this will affect many PC gamers.
                          2) Since there is no menu, you can't adjust settings without spawning and finding somewhere to hide. This is a huge step backwards.

I like the concept of forums + stats + friend list all being integrated, but I want an in-game browser and menu as well. Since the motto is supposed to be "play your way" it's disappointing to see them forcing an inefficient process on everyone instead of offering alternatives.

You don't need to alt-tab; just drop the game entirely with alt+F4 instead and refresh battlelog, the load the new game.

People struggling with alt+tab don't have hardware to run BF3 properly anyways, why should we dumb the program down?

That sounds horrible. Why not add a browser tab to the games main menu? Oh, or are they to lazy because it's just a console port? Now i wonder...
