Battlefield 3 PC wont have in-game server browser..

I'm not sure if this has been posted yet..

DICE’s online stat tracking and matchmaking website, Battlelog will replace the in-game main menu for Battlefield 3 on PC. Eurogamer report that to change servers in the middle of a session, we’ll have to Alt-tab out of the game, and then start another match from the Battlelog website. As if that wasn’t strange enough, console versions of Battlefield 3 WILL be getting an in-game server browser.

Yeah, Battlelog is an out of game browser and works very well. You just go to the website and select a server or group of friends and the game starts up and puts you in.

I havent posted that up because of the battle log news posts. Alpha leaks also show what the browser looks like and what options are available.

was wondering when people here would talk about this

its a really good system and I liked it a lot in the Alpha, not sure why people are raging over something like this when really it is not that different

consoles have to have it in game since they are incapable of multitasking between programs or operating in such a fashion that the PC will through BattleLog

Yeah, Someone was complaining to Demize about having to ALT+TAB during the alpha and he said, dont do that, just close the game and re-launch because its fast enough and it is.

I have to admit though, and this is just because of all the free-to-play web based games, it makes it seem like I am not playing Battlefield 3 but some cheepy game.

It's mostly because of the ressources eating that I don't like Origin and Battlelog, I don't like third-party software because of that and because I don't want to launch more than the game if it isn't necessary.

It does give you a feeling that you don't actually own the game, but I don't care. If it gets me into the game faster and easier, I'll use it.

Just think of it like this, BattleLog IS your main menu

the game literally just loads levels etc, I liked it a lot during the Alpha, think a lot of people will as well when they give it a shot

Yeah, it is weird, but it's worked just as well. Heck during the alpha I didn't even have to launch origin just log into battlelog, and then join a server, it was A LOT faster then launching a game, especially a EA game since they almost never let you skip the "brought to you by" logo videos.

It's just slightly different, but it's just a freaking website. If you HAVE to launch origin before launching the game, yeah that's a little much.

However gamers will bitch about anything, so this wasn't surprising that a slight change to something that yes did work fine in all games before, would be met with unwarranted criticism from people that have never actually used it. For us that have used it in the alpha, we can help make it clearer what was positive and negative about it. Though that experience might not be what we get in the Beta or retail, or post launch, ideally legitimate problems will be listened to by DICE.

hey, i just hope they reduce the CPU utilization of ORIGIN. by A LOT. As for the browser i will use the one that's lighter, probably chrome?

I've heard that everyone who has actually used it liked it. The only people who didn't like the system were those that haven't used it yet.

Are you on the store page or game library in Origin? If you are on the game library, CPU usage should be extremely low.

What happens if you want to change a server? Do you have to minimize the game or close it?

You quit the game and choose another one through the Battlelog system.

I will also install Chrome because Firefox is a resource hog.
