    Far Cry 3

Ubisoft Montreal now has a tracked record of learning from their mistake.

The first Assassin's Creed is pretty boring and repetitive game, and so was Far Cry 2.

What they were doing is to find a way to design sandbox type games.

However, they were caught in the realism trend and forgot that the game is about fun, not about doing jobs like in real life. AC2 is huge fun, and subsequent franchise don't repeat the same mistake.

And now we have Far Cry 3 just annouced in E3. The trailer looks like any other modern shooter, but the bad guy in the trailer is talking about the definition of insanity (quote Einstein) repetetively. This is a good sign that Ubisoft Montreal have taken a note of critics from FC2.

Not speculating what would be in FC3, but the only thing that is missing in FC2 single player is fun. Most missions are not different from any other mission, and most players stick to their preferred style. The game is supposed to be played by varying styles of play each time, but it turns out that a sniper rifle with Carl Gustav and SMG as side arms prevails every single time. Some of the assassination missions are too easy if you are good with Type 63 mortar. Over all, the game is superior in every technical way, except it isn't fun.

And the level design and overall turd-looking environment doesn't help, not to mention the mandatory malaria infection and depressing storyline.

The concept of respawning enemy and road rage actually isn't that bad, had they tune the respawn frequency and incident rate a bit lower.

And the multiplayer doesn't play very much different from COD. It wasn't very bad, just no reason to play.

But there are good things about FC2 that they should carry on to FC3. The map editor is fantastic. The Dunia engine and the game mechanism indeed allow full freedom of the player. The very large and diverse environment, from desert to open grass land to jungle to wetland is genius. People who complained that the map is 'too mall' probably didn't do diamond hunting very well.

The first thing they need to do with FC3 is throw away all the realism crap they've done in FC2. Far Cry should be a serious of B-movie-esque action game featuring sci-fi story and sandbox type gaming. In short, they need to develop action-centric FPS that plays somewhat like GTA4 or AC2, not Sadre-ist type nonsensical display of existentialism.

Well, you can remove the SMG and the sniper rifle, the Carl Gustav would have prevailed alone.

Far cry 3 looks a lot more linear... well maybe. It might just be the overblown intro or something.

Edit: still do not like Ubisofts strategy of using older game names to promote an entirely new franchise. Sadly it worked with Far cry 2 and now they are doing it with Brothers in Arms.

It probably just wa the Demo that was linear. To show as much as possible. Explosions, Helicopters, Cover system and some more.

FC3 looked Cod-ded out to me. Less graphics, def less realism, and more about running full speed gun blazing like every boring console FPS to date.

Just like with the release of Terminator 3 and Salvation as far as I am concerned Far Cry 2 does not exist. Crytek should have never sold the rights to Ubi, the first game was amazing, had an awesome location, good gameplay and a neat story. That game should have been expanded on and not re-imagined by a studio with a lack of vision. Honestly I don't even understand how they could slap the Far Cry name on the 2nd game, It should have been called Disaster Safari or something like that....

I was a fan of Far Cry 2 and sometimes I just wish they would have the same gameplay but within a large city. Keep the assassination and destruction missions and add in some other new things into the mix.

The ONLY thing that ever made me mad in FC2 was when I forgot to save after doing like 6 missions and ended up dying from one of those air tanks that fly around when they gets shot. The game would usually only autosave when I'm on an actual road but I always liked going long ways around to snipe so I would also sneak around the saves.

Another thing, did anybody ever play the Karkand map in the MP? It was fun as hell sniping people in the hills again.
