Maybe only "PART" of certain things are destructible, like fences or certain garbage bins.

As a veteran of the world's finest Navy, I'm all for plenty of sea action. What do you think about being able to swim underwater?

Swimming underwater would be awesome and it would really bring a whole new element to tactical gameplay. How about be able to melee attack while being underwater?

To be able to go underwater in a BF game was something many players dreamed since BF1942, it's not even hard to do (many games have it). But I don't think Dice will ever code it before BF12, each time they add some good gameplay mechanics we lose some others.

... what the heck is the point of combat under water? That seems pretty redundant and un-needed.

Sounds like something I would've wished for when I first started playing FPS haha.

Combat underwater? Well to be able to knife or strangle someone instead of both racing to the nearest coast to be the first to shoot is nice. But even if there's only the ability to go underwater it would still be nice. And I play FPS since Doom I don't see your point, many games include the possibility of swimming underwater.

I suppose being able to stab someone in the water would be nice. It just doesn't seem like something that should have a lot of time spent on it.

But it doesn't require a lot of time, just a diving and swimming underwater animation.

                      Re: Warships are back?

That would be pointless. How many times have you actually ended up in the water along with your enemy? There are not even that many maps with water in them. If swimming should have any place in BF3 it would be as a strategy for assault teams like for Navy Seals to attack with stealth. Swimming up on shore or to the docks like in some maps. With the fast pace of BC2 would you even notice if somebody snook up on you or would you be to busy defending against the other 20 people running towards you.
That would require a whole different kind of game/map. Where spawnpoint were farther in between and you would not be able to spawn on a squadmember.
In regards to the whole battleship discussion actual canons on battleships are a thing of the past. Modern battleships today are only equiped with missiles. The only canons on the ships are used for close quarter combat or against small boats with no radar signiture for the missiles to lock on to. Like with the pirat hunt in Somalia in the Gulf of Aden.
I did enjoy hunting down the aircraftcarrier in the destroyer in BF1942 but war has changed and basically only aircraftcarriers and support ships (and subs) are used in todays war on the sea.

Lets keep what we´ve got and just improve the land/air combat.

Actually ending in the water with enemies firing on you from the ground happened a lot in PC BFs, BC2 is different with its small and linear maps and fast pace. It's not pointless at all and can be coded really quickly (I'm talking only about the ability to go underwater, no harpoon guns etc).

Actually, I ended up in the water with enemy in BC2 a day or two ago and found out I can use the knife while in the water, but nothing else.

So it is possible to go further into that. I dont know how practical it would be though.

I think the idea of underwater swimming in full combat gear would be a bit silly.
Not that we are obsessed with reality in BF, but there is a reason divers have a Buoyancy Control Device.

Depending on how classes and items are handled, I could maybe see it as an unlock for the Recon class.

Reanimating someone who took a 120mm shell in the face seems silly and yet it's in a game. Maybe not a diving deep into water but something like 2-3 meters.
