Thank you for saying that. I don't think enough people get that point very often. More rep for the epic Cap'n. :)

Probably very off topic at this point, but as a BF2 Mobile AA whore, I very much disagree that planes in Bf2 were OP. Heck people still haven't figured out how to use the stingers properly. You don't sit in them, and wait to get taken out, you stay beside them and hop in once a plane is in your range, and hopefully focused on something else, then you might not kill it, but hopefully might get one missile that hits it.

And with mobile AA, I racked up 3/1 K/D in most games, some times even 4/1 or 5/1. The only thing I feared was Bombers and choppers with a decent crew. Even enemy armour wasn't a huge concern, especially since with enough flak I could take them out, especially if I had AT help.

Some people couldn't figure out the jets, but it was a rare breed to come across people that would actually use the mobile AA serious in that game.

Which the stationary stinger missles were easy to evade and a good pilot, like myself, blew them up first because they were static and I memorized where they were.

As for mobile AA, yeah, those were great, but they were not in Wake Island, Daliant, or Gulf of Oman, which is where most servers were set on.

Also, like you said, a lot of people didnt figure out the mobile AA and I picked them off like the ripe fruit of the noob tree that they were.

Mobile AA is decent, but like Crunch said the biggest jet maps had no mobile AA vehicles in them (odd that Dalian 16 has one but 64 does not...wth DICE?). Likely given that neither Dalian nor Wake had bomber jets DICE felt that the mobile AA would have been overpowered, although they were fine with putting them on Dragon Valley so who knows what they were thinking? I just hated that TV missiles had a longer range than the AA missile lock on in the mobile AA because that meant that a decent crew as you said would have no problem taking you out before you even became a problem.

Thats another thing. My biggest gripe wasnt always the jets, but the helis and the seat switching (which I also did) that allowed the TV missle to take out everything without getting in range of counter measures. AT kit could take them down, but only if the guy was smart and close enough to not set off the alarms in time for the hit (which I also did).

I guess I think it was messed up because I learned the tricks and was on both sides of the argument and in the end, it wasnt right. My opinion, you can think otherwise, but Ive seen many servers die because of one or two people, myself included.

Re: Just had an interesting Twitter exchange with Demize...

Oh yeah, I forgot about the seat switching being able to break the locks. I remember when BushViper did that to me on FuShe where I had him locked on and without flares, then all of a sudden BAM, lock gone and TV missile inbound, me = pwned. At least the main gun on the PGZ and Bradley were decent enough at damaging aircraft, but the Tunguska was worthless (and a pain to drive on Zatar because of how often I'd drive off the side of a bridge unless I went into third person view, heh) and firing the main cannon at vehicles out of TV missile range was the easiest way to get force fed a missile.

Of course, .50s were great at dealing with helis, but using one either on the top of a tank or a car, instantly told every enemy jet pilot that you were a valid target, which brings us back to that issue from earlier. With just a *few* tweaks to the system BF2's aircraft balance could go from rage-inducing to pretty well balanced IMO.

Man, hands down the best person you could have on your team in a vehicle server on bf2 was a solo chopper pilot named kev. Map like sharqi and it's over, and I'm not talking just tv missles. He'd switch to gunner seat in the cobra and decimate the opposition with the guns.

I had to play with/against a guy named Luke. Great guy. Awesome in a Chopper. Great in a tank. Sucked as infantry

The guy was hard to take down. Had to learn to beat him to win a few rounds.

seat switching was a issue, but as my guide made clear, you need a place of cover to really survive as mobile AA, and as for the missile range, for choppers, the flak guns were your primary weapon when dealing with them, since they can use flares so often you shouldn't be relying on missiles. Seriously, Mobile AA was FINE, especially after 1.4, and subsequent patches to actually make missiles not 100% lock since that made mobile AA almost over powered compared to planes. If you had any doubts about how effective mobile AA especially could be, please read my guide.

Re: Just had an interesting Twitter exchange with Demize...

Ill start by saying there has always been a stigma with multiplatform games, I have to agree because I shared the same concern, it was rare to get a good multiplatform title if the game contained certain aspects that while working on a console should be changed for a PC version (but then weren't)

What makes me happy about some of the latest BF3 info is that it seems they are going to differentiate the platform versions to cater properly to each market, which is imo how it should be done of course

now as for BF2, I liked armour a lot myself, but I spent a fair bit of time in the helos and jets (I spent more time in the 2142 gunships though, was more fun)

and it was sometimes quite ridiculous, yes the proper tactic was to wait near a stinger site etc, or mobile AA, and not get in until you had a good chance, but even then half the time the missile lock broke or just bugged out. When I was a pilot as well, in between bombing runs I would just spam at AA positions and the cannons were generally powerful enough to kill everything even if I didn't bomb it, AA vehicles lit up with the all seeing HUD as well. All you had to do was fly smart as well and the threat was reduced even more.

Don't even get me started on heli soloing ha, I would get ****ers trying to lock me with a stinger, 1 second later I would land a tvg in their face, that was after locking down every piece of enemy armour, it was simply too powerful and broke up the gameplay totally

BC2 might be a console version of battlefield but it has a few good things that I would like to see, first of all some of the AA could be moved over. More variety of AA would be good, so something like the VADs or Zeus as well as missile based ones would really shake things up and other some useful alternatives, mobile AA of course but perhaps also a SAAW style weapon like in 2142

I do know however that I want the helis to be agile and able to fly at a good height, not like BC2, the helis are more balanced in that, but if we are going to have good AA that can deal with jets, the helis will need to still be competent and while they are not OP in BC2 the attack helis feel limited even with the latest improvements. I do not however want that to mean the helis can singlehandedly dominate a map from 20000000 feet, I know thats how it is in real life (where a wing of apaches will destroy an entire armour column) but that sucks for enjoyment factor :p
