I don't think it is the weapon damage anymore, I think it is more of weapons range that's an issue.

It's ridiculously that I can pick off snipers with M60 from long ranges.

I almost had a feeling that the couple of new larger maps added to vanilla in the last patch were meant to wet our appetite for larger maps in Vietnam but it just didn't happen.
To be fair, they can't show real live actual gameplay in the trailers or else all you'd get is nade and explosives spam, which makes for a very boring trailer. They had to highlight the best parts of the game and they felt that was the helicopters. You'd think they'd use that as an opportunity for some introspection, as to say, "Hey, everyone loves the trailers where we put a bunch of vehicles and aircraft in and make it seem like the maps are huge...maybe we should actually make the game that way, too!". But if they keep selling copies and DLC by popping out cluster**** maps it's unlikely they'll change.

compared to any battlefield game the flying in this is a joke but that's the way they wanted it, comfortable enough for the call of duty zombies to cross over but not enough to scare them off or make them think outside of the box. To be fair i didn't honestly expect the flying to be more of impact on gameplay than it does in vanilla but after seeing those trailers i held out some hope.

Well it is a completely different game when the entire team isn't shooting at you because one worthless sniper sitting in his main spotted you and the tanks don't have range finders to nail you with their first shot every time.

It is a completely different game in hardcore, Ill be it much slower but with these itty bitty postage stamp maps you almost have to slow down the action with hardcore mode or it's nothing but running around in circles killing people as they spawn much like a call of duty clone. I find myself making ALLOT more spawn kills with this DLC and I certainly don't go out of my way to do it, between the spotting and the close vicinity of the spawn points it's hard not to have almost half of your kills be meaningless spawn kills. I know some people enjoy that, but not me.

interestingly, that's how i felt about BC2. it was totally not what i was expecting from watching all the dev videos, teasers/trailers. now i pretty much ignore all the videos they put out. i'll watch them, but i won't let it make me set certain expectations on how the game will be.

Well to be honest i was expecting bigger(eg. more tanks, helos and bigger maps),but then i have to remember this is BC.

How heavy are poor ole BF3s shoulders atm lol

In point of fact, the M60 has in real life greater range than any of the sniper rifles.

                  Effective range:
                  M21-750 yards
                  SVD-800 yards
                  M40-1000 yards
                  M60-1200 yards

Of course, there is no scope so engaging targets at over a 1000 yards would be tough unless the enemies were out in the open.

                    .. you sure about that?

EDIT: The more I think about it the less true I think that is...

Considering the fact that a bolt action rifle is pretty much always more accurate than its semi-automatic counterparts, how on Earth would the M60 have a full 200 more yards of range against a rifle that fires (what I think is...) the same round?

EDITEDIT: Then I looked at wikipedia and they say the same thing that you did... what the hell haha.

Yeah, anyone who thought this was going to be some miracle BF3 conversion deserves the loss of their $15. Its BC2. Still and always. If they make another expansion for it, it will probably be like BC2 as well. Just a hunch

Almost every map (except Phu Bai Valley) has a bloody choke point.

Teammates clutter up, then comes the nade and M79 spam.

Flamethrower somewhat useless, maps require a lot of running, flamethrowers are running targets from afar.

Seems to be what some people go for, though. It's why IO Karkand and Titan mode were so popular.

                            Re: Vietnam

Yeah its about bullet size/gunpowder and barrel length, while the m60 or 50cal machine gun will travel further than a 50cal rifle(and when you think about it alot of AA is 50 cal and shoots way into the sky)

It obviously wont have the same accuracy as a Sniper rifle single shot.Ive seen some robots mounted with a 50cal machine gun that can snipe in single shot mode.

Im not sure about wiki but there has beem confirmed sniper shots from over 1.8kms or a Mile.thats a bit more than 1000 meters

Doesnt "Effective Range" says more about the ability to kill at that distance than the accuracy? Because I think the M60s larger effective range has more to do with it being a bullet-hose than superior accuracy and range.

                                Re: Vietnam

Effective range is also about accuracy. As the rotation of a bullet decays, the bullet starts spiraling in bigger and bigger circles. At the maximum effective range to a point target, the circle is still small enough to be able to hit a man-sized target most of the time. There is also a maximum effective range to an area target. That's where the bullet-hose factor comes in.

The M60 was actually pretty accurate, though. I qualified with an M240B not too long ago, which is just the newer version of the M60, and I was able to hit 800m targets just fine with short bursts.
About ten years ago I qualified with an M60, it was the same. Just because it's automatic doesn't mean the first shot isn't accurate or that you can't walk a burst through a target.
