If you had one class in your squad of four, what would it be?

In SDM it's all about killing infantry as fast as you can. It has to be assault - when your AR is empty switch to 40mm SGN or GL then pistol then knife anybody left. Sometimes you just don't have enough time to reload, especially in that shoebox that is Isla Inocentes.

i can't say that there is a blanket answer to this question if ALL maps/modes are considered. as to the original question, i still think medic is the best. you can constantly revive and heal. the guns are quite good and have large enough ammo capacity to not be concerned w/ running out of bullets too quickly. in squad dm there will be 1 tank or none if played as I/O.
in other maps, such as conquest panama canal, you are better off w/ assault or engi. personally i would go w/ assault. if you choose your kit right, you get c4 to compliment a decent array of guns along w/ unlimited ammo. on this map in particular, the roads are narrow and it's quite easy to sneak up on a tank and plant c4. on a more open armor laden map, engi is a better choice, where armor can dominate if not dealt w/ from a distance.

I think the only way to solve the medic problem is to give them defib and get rid of the medpacks. Let's go back to 1942's health lockers :)
Well, BFBC2's "heal over time" works fairly well. I think it's great that medkits heal, just not instantly so that a guy can throw three medkits on the ground and stand on them to be pretty much invincible.
The biggest issue I have with BFBC2 medics is revive invulnerability.
