    Re: Bad company 2 + Modern warfare 2 = ?

Thanks frosty it did the trick.

Ok my first impressions on the beta are:

    1. It doesnt feel quite like everyone is saying with the whole "its BC2 and MW2" style of play. Its similar but i havent been playing and thinking its like BC2.

    2. The graphics are piss poor for the frostbite engine and unless its because its the beta that perhaps the graphics are not optimized yet but its far from todays standards and what we all expected.

    3. Guns are strong! FINALLY! This is one major improvement over BC2. The guns feel like you are shooting actual bullets rather than the candy floss we are accustomed too.

    4. The sounds are not really that great. The guns are not very loud although for some reason when i get a killstreak i almost blow my speakers up with the sound that gets played.

    5. The points showing up in the screen can get a bit annoying but generally you dont notice them.

    6. Not sure if its because its a beta but am i right in thinking there are only 5 weapons in this game? M16, M4, LMG, Shotgun and a Sniper? (with the side variants of course). If this is the case and with guns already being so easy to use i cant see the game keeping me for longer than 2 weeks at most simply because it just wouldnt be a challenge.

There will be plenty more to say about it after i have played a bit more and if you have any questions fire away. From what i have seen so far though its "ok" at best, however there is definitely a platform there for them to work on and it has potential. The fact its a beta does worry me a little as it feels more like some of the pre-alpha tests i have done for previous games and so i can see the game possibly getting delayed.

There are more guns confirmed somewhere, it's just cause it's beta so they didn't want to give away too much.

Point messages look really annoying, with them being in the middle of the screen and having the fancy graphic.

What can you call in with the score chains?

That's kind of disappointing since it's on the same engine an BC2. How are the sound effects, like explosions and rockets going by you?

What are you even going on about? If you hate iron sights so much BC2/MW2/MOH isn't for you.

              Re: Bad company 2 + Modern warfare 2 = ?

One thing that I'm just starting to realize is how underpowered the sniper class is. On a map like the objective map, you would expect snipers to be beast. But I always seem to be picked off by the recoilless assault rifles before I can even line up my shot. The I see is that snipers you actually have to take the time to aim. If you are using a bolt, which, by the way, are horrible, you have to aim for the head or you won't get the kill. The semi-autos you have to aim carefully too because they have a slow RoF. But the assault rifle is just point and click, even for across the map. And you get 30 bullets within a few seconds. I am really starting to wonder what is the point of the sniper class when I can stick a sight on my M16 and be just at good at range and even better in close range? Hopefully they fix this.

Also, speaking of the sniper class, the bolt-actions rifles are horrible. It's not so much the rifle IMO. The one flaw I see with the rifle is that it takes too long to bolt. After shooting, he just sits there for a second and then bolts slowly. In BC2, as long as you unscoped, you would bolt. The other problems have to do with the game. Holding your breathe is the same button as sprint. So if you want to walk forward while holding your breathe, you will sprint forward and unscope (then probably get shot by an AK-47). Same with going backwards. You can only move left and right while in the scope. Then there are the horrible hitboxes. Just like BC2, you can watch the shot hit the player and see the blood spatter, but you don't even wound him. The same thing happens in this game. It happens frequently with headshots. And since you pretty much have to headshot (if not, you have to go through the bolting process and re-align your shot, and by this time you are usually spotted by the guy you were shooting at, who probably has an assault rifle), it is very hard to do well with the bolts.

I just don't like the rag doll physics in MOH series.

This MOH looks like 70% COD and 30% BF.

Lack of innovation and creativity on their part. I see small scale combat, not large scale epic 2142/bf2 style.

I m sticking with DICE, regardless of how incompetent they are.

BF2 and BF2142 left the fondest memories in my mind.

                  Re: Bad company 2 + Modern warfare 2 = ?

Ok here are some further reports on my impressions so far:

First thing i have started to notice is that spawning is simply terrible. You have the option to spawn at the front line (it literally means the front line and you end up becoming the victim of a firing squad) or spawn at your base whereby if you dont move to cover fast enough you will get picked off by the 7 snipers camping behind a rock. The lack of spawn protection, especially at base is a real set back.

Again i will comment on the graphics. WHY ARE THEY SO POOR. When i first loaded up BC2 in all high and heard the sounds and the shine of the sun through the trees i was in awe. This game looks more like Counterstrike than any game produced in the last 5 or 6 years. The sounds also seem to be very erratic however this could be because its a beta. You can be outside and fire your gun to barely be able to hear it. Yet you can walk inside and it will feels like the walls are about to collapse from the echoing.

So far hit registration has actually been pretty good and as mentioned previously the guns do feel a lot more powerful compared to some of their BC2 counterparts. However i do feel that the rifles are so powerful that the snipers need to be buffed a little.

The biggest thing i have noticed so far that for me is actually a plus is the fact its not so much a run and gun FPS. The guns in the game are too powerful to go sprinting across the map and you will get picked off very easily. If you fail to use cover and a little intelligence you will find yourself dying quite a bit. Checking corners also really helps in this game and if coordinated right it could be quite a good game for competitive play (however the game modes atm lack any real direction imo).

Concerning the "aiming down sights" argument, the game actually has pretty good accuracy when firing from the hip and anything from close to medium range is opportune to fire from the hip. However obviously with the more long range accurate shots aiming down the sights is essential.

So far the game is going ok but its obvious it needs a lot of work.

I'd have thought graphics would be better, anyone noticed its built on the BC2 R8 Client .

Same with all fps you will get snipers holding a team back, on the Combat Mission Ive chosen to spawn at the front and ended up a few feet from the Base as there is a Sniper perched on a rock with a RDS?!? Awsome zoom it must have.

There is no bullet drop as yet on anything.. and its very easy to "spawn camp" on some of the maps given you can get into little hidy holes covering a spawn point. So no spawn protection.. You spawn you die.. You continue to spawn in the same place 5 times and die 5 times awsome.

In all honesty I don't know why they would implement bullet drop, seeing as I doubt you would ever experience it at the small map sizes (BC2 massively overemphasized bullet drop, bullets dropping at 200m good joke).

I have never liked bullet drop, I understand it is to add realism but I just find it frustrating sometimes.

Play BFBC 2 in Hardcore and you will get similar game play results and thanks for making a good argument for it, however inadvertently your intention.

Don't you mean you want the original MoHAA style game play? Both recent MoH incantations (Pacific Assault and Airborne) have had the aim down the sights feature and the reduced accuracy of hip firing. MoH long ago adopted the aim down the sights feature, to go back to the original game play of AA would be a huge step backwards.

For the most part Airbourne was just fine. When you should use sights you used them and when shouldn't you wouldn't (unless you didn't know better)

I recently was able to try out the beta and I think Frosty and Eliminator are both pretty accurate in their descriptions. All the bugs aside (its a beta, there will be) the game is just OK.

                                My main gripes:

                                1. Player movement and control is very "heavy" It seems like my soldier is out of shape and cant lift that gun fast enough or run.
                                2. Graphics do not look right. It kinda reminds me of ET:QW graphics. Something done a few years ago.
                                3. Sounds are strange. There is a strange echo and you cant tell where shots are coming from and sometimes if you are standing in the doorway or a wall, the game can't decide if you are inside or outside for sound animations.
                                4. Everything is powerful. They are guns and they kill...fast.
                                5. Spawning is confusing and no telling where you will end up.

                                My main likes:
                                1. Soldier communication.
                                2. Mini map. (THANK YOU for the compass)
                                3. Game modes
                                4. Cover on the maps so you can dodge things.
Its a beta and there are going to be adjustments and querks to work out, but as of right now it feels like this game should have released a couple years ago.

It could be that BC2 has ruined sounds for me and maybe thats why I expect more when I shoot something.

Also, I never played MOH online. I always just played the single player. Maybe this is normal for MOH.
