Profanity is one thing but racism is in a whole new ball game. Ban on sight do not pass go do not collect 200 points no second chances.

well what upsets me is not the fact i can't drop f-bombs but i can't even say "damn, nice shot" because it turns to "#$@#!, nice shot". sensitive filters are lame. i hate it when unexpected, non-profane words get banned.

          I completely agree.

I dont think Dice was stupid enough to have meant for this to be more kid friendly, since I can hear f bombs accross the whole battlefield (lol), so they must just have wanted to cut down on the hate. I just dont agree with this, I may not have any amazing justification for it, but having the freedom to tell somebody to F*** off when needed is something nice to have and it does not cause harm to others.

I think a server option is fine, so instead of kicking/banning, you just cant say it, but a global censor, is just not something desirable. I hate feeling constrained.

That last part is debatable. And its probably against EAs mile-long EULA anyway, I am sure they have a harassment clause.

I wish they had just stuck with the stars instead of the randomly assigned characters as it can make reading things feel very frustrating, especially when you type in damn as people have said and it turns into something like %@&"!

Unless you count hurt feelings, in which case you shouldnt be playing a violent shooter in the first place. Who cares about the EULA? And is it just me or is it classic when people in battlefield or shooters in general get their panties in a bunch? And yes *'s would be much better, random signs just look odd. There is no reason this should not be a server side option.

Most of the threads I see about profanity are from people that are pissed that they cant use it. That is, cant use it to insult others, because nothing is stopping them from cursing out loud at home.
So it is not as much about freedom of expressions as it is about the need to annoy other people.

Well the freedom of expression applies to expressing yourself to other people. So if porn shirts were banned, you could still wear them at home, but not in public, that kind of seems like a freedom of expression case. And I dont usually get annoyed when cursed at, most people I encounter are mature enough to voice their thoughts and move on, not all, but most. Again, the fact that It could be a server side choice makes the most sense. I simply think it should be the operators decision if he wants to allow insulting language, and it is not always used to insult either.

Regardless, if there was an option to disable the filter it should be clientside, not serverside.
                        Quoting a genius idea.

It's so absurd it filtered "pls hit q to spot." I guess it thought i was trying to type the oh-so naught s word.

the problem however is, they wont change it. because see, if they do then Dice sends out a message that they a) promote profanity or b) they promote that they are a rude company, yes the gaming community would like to speak their interests and congratulate people by saying "Damn, nice shot" but it just simply wont pass. It would make Dice look bad/stupid.

I for one am not defending Dice, but in my case i really dont care if it stays or goes. i always play in Tactical Gaming servers and everything there tends to be...well..tactical, and alot is done on the mic.
