Running through a friendly mortar barrage or up to the mcomm station as a friendly tank is bombarding it ruins the immersion of the game. FF forces teammates to be more judicious with their fire. Yeah, there are mistakes and friendlies are killed but guess what accounted for the most coalition deaths in the first Gulf War? That's right boys and girls, FF.
What's more, because the weapons have greater stopping power it is easier to drop an opponent but the reverse is also true, you can be more easily killed. You have to use cover more effectively.
Knife kills as a result of the increased weapons stopping power are harder to get, and as such more rewarding.
We can probably argue about this issue ad infinitum and never convince one another. I'm glad they gave us the option to have it and we can each enjoy that which suits us best.
