Why use anything else?

I give them credit for trying to have a deep variety of guns to use but I find that it's a waste when you simply make the next gun better(no always true,see m60).
For example, why use anything else besides the m16 or the ank for assault?
Why use anything else when you can have the Goliath or m95 for sniper? Or the ump-75 for engineer?

I dont think it is as black and white as you describe. For instance I prefer the Scar-L as an Engineer in the few cases where I dont use a shotgun.
And the XM8 is the assult weapon that kills me the most. Likewise I find the m249 great for gunning down enemy squads.

For some of us it is a motivation in itself do avoid the class-of-the day and weapon-of-the-day.

I was discussing this with a friend of mine last night. I always seem to use the weapon that nobody else uses. I never use whats "hot" or "op" at the time. I try to be different, and probably suffer using that mindset. Like right now, i went from a Medic with a pump shotty, to an Engineer with the PP-2000 and the 4x scope just to do something different. So yes you can follow the trends of the hottest guns (M60/M16's), or you can explore different ways to enjoy the game. After a few rounds of finding out my setup for Engineer, i have been going 30-5 'ish every round, with a gun i never thought i'd like. Turns out i really enjoy the PP-2000 now. Takes more time to master a weapon than others, but it's more satisfying when you start owning with some off the wall guns. Just my 2c

I often wonder why they give guns at all when explosives are so much more effective. Ever want to play an FPS game and actually have some gunfights so you join a BC2 game and every enemy you come across spams you with grenade launchers and Carl Gustavs? I often tell myself that maybe DICE just forgot to put guns in some of the kits. :p I'm like Tampa, I prefer variety and not just what nets easy kills, but it does get annoying when everyone on the server is using only three different weapons because they're easy/OP. I almost drop my jaw when I see someone other than myself getting kills with the Remington, for example.

I understand and back in BF2 I always choose the unknown guns though that was after I got good.

Useless? There are weapons that I don't like, but that might just be because they don't fit my playstyle. Looking at the numbers there isnt anything that I would call "useless".

Some weapons people simply prefer, that said imo there are clear cut better ones

M60 just mows when M1 is held, but then the MG36 has a built in scope etc. The M16 is awesome but some people don't like the burst so prefer something like the M416, or others the AN94 if they want some higher damage.

The M95 might do a lot of damage but is loud and slow etc, the UMP is also a good weapon but some people might prefer a larger clip.

Some players might flock to certain guns but you will only know which ones suit you best through playing with them

As far as crap guns go, why would ANYONE use the M9 or the 9A-91 if they had access to any of the other guns in that category unless they're trying to get stars or something.

Every single solitary weapon in the game is good. You just have to adjust your tactics and play style to that weapon. If you are using a high ROF sub-machine gun, you know you must close on your target, etc.

Try them all out, I'm having a great time using the different weapons in different situations.

It's a lot more fun compared to BF2 where you had 2 choices of weapons, and they didn't really make a difference.

I don't think it matters much which gun you use unless gun "x" is ALOT better than gun "y". You don't even understand the hurt I can put on COD4 with an MP5, while everyone use to claim the P90 was the best gun. I always would and always will use the MP5 in COD4.

Right now, I play Assault on BC2 and always use the M416. It's my favorite gun. Do I know if it's the most efficient? Nope, but I do know that I do well with it and I personally like the feel of the gun. Player skill overcomes slight differences in gun efficiency, as long as one gun isn't extremely better as I said earlier.

I for the life of me can't get comfortable enough with the M16; my hard on for the XM8 is so big, I don't care it's not the "best" weapon for assault; I also like the AKA47 cos it makes a fun noise when firing, and randomly spawn with the M4 when I'm feeling lucky.

Thing is, most people hear "the M60" is godly, and without a thought go straight for it, regardless of wether or not it fits their playstyle; wich is one thing I liked a lot of all the weapons in this game, they all have roles to fulfill and you end up using what you like them ost that works for you in most scenarios.

I know for certain, I am not trying long range with engineer if I don't have the UZI in my hands, but I can charge better with the XM8; even tough the SCAR is "better" than both guns, but I just can't play well with the scar. Similarly, I am now more used to the PKM than the other medic guns, as I can't snipe with any other LMG. If you need to know, I spray and pray better with the G36 than with the M60, tough the M60 is almost perfect for medium range; close quarters the G3 and G36 are way better to mow down guys, specially since they sport larger belts.

So to answer your question: Why use anything else? Cos it's fun.
