xD I don't get knifed, I knife them haha, it's really easy to just follow a player and then wait for the right moment. But if I get stabbed I usually try to get back at that person so we're even

First of all, I notice that you favourite class is Recon. You wouldnt happen to be a no-good camping sniper, who have to guts to complain about being stabbed in the back? Just asking.

Second: 95% of the stabbing I see happens in one of two scenarios.
Either someone gets behind you and stab you in the back, in which case they could just as well have gotten 60 headshots on you. The knife is faster, quiet and saves ammo. But you will be dead anyway, and rightfully so.

Or you encounter someone at so close range that aim (and hitdetection) goes out the window. In that case the knife takes the place of melee. The keybind is even named so. That is nothing new to FPS, some games just have you use your riflebutt or whatever instead of a knife.

Knifing someone doesnt have the same bragging rights as in BF2142, but it fits perfectly with the flow of the game.

I've been discussing this issue with my clan for quite some time. We all agree it's an aimbot weapon. All you do is point in the general direction of the enemy, then magically lunge forward and hit him in the face. It's the same system as the 3 latest Call of Duty games.

I'm sure none of us want the Battlefield series to become the Call of Duty series. Call of duty is close quarters, intense infantry action, while the battlefield series has always been large map, multiple vehicle, team play oriented.

I'm not happy with the regenerating health system, or the blood on your face.

I'm just glad BF-BC2 had a bunch of little insults to Modern Warfare 2 in it's campaign.

That is an exaggeration. I have no problem with people rushing me from afar and stabbing me, they die unless they catch me while reloading. MW2 on the other hand had the speed-knifers. No comparison at all

Only ******* use the knife imo. I'd rather have to respawn than get a cheap kill like that on someone. (:

This is why you will never amount to much when it comes to gaming.

haha ^^ I totally identify with that. I'm sure guys can too.

I dont get the point. The guys sounds like an ***

Notice that the good players are reaching higher and higher levels of play. They found the "cheap stuff" and abused it. They know how to stop the cheap stuff.
He seems to think that is a good thing.

His essay is centered more on fighting games, one vs one; not the chaotic mess that is a BF game.

Sirlin is very respected and somewhat idolized in the fighting game genre, he's by now means a top player anymore but he got famous a couple of years ago, mostly by being one of the guys that managed to win a round against Daigo. Or stall him. or something like that.
And yeah he sounds like an ***, but he's actually on the side of balance; he'd be the kind of guy to allow base raping to finish off a bad round as odd as that might sound.

                      Knifing in BC2 is terrible.

Being able to magically knife someone with a single hit, such as in the leg, and cause a "one-slice death" is just way too unrealistic, even for a video game. For a one-slice kill, you should have to actually aim the knife at a certain part of the body, such as the head or heart. Now THAT would make it humiliating. Sneaking up on a sniper and jabbing a knife in their neck. Anywhere else would be treated like a normal bullet wound, allowing a player to respond and fight back.

Again, way too overpowered and unrealistic IMO.

Like the gentle pokes in BF2 right? Look at the animation carefully, it's supposed to go for the yugular vein; it's a one hit kill, or at least an incapacitating wound; the console version locks on the head automatically, so it's easier to swallow.

*edit* I don't know if you remember, but BF games always have had their depth perception scale wrong; load up BF2142, an duse the PK rockets measuring scope, someone standing 2 meters away in-game looks like he's standing 10 meters away; also remember that altering the FOV gives the illusion everything is farther away than what it really is (ie: your character suddenly runs like the Flash) so those knifers aren't lunging superhuman distances in an instant; it just looks that way.

This is by no means an apologetic post on behalf of DICE, I just think the knife issue is blown completely out of proportion. Also I completely hate the butter spreading animation and sound effects for BF2 and 2142; at least 2142 had the dogtags going to justify the knifer players. And I personally find much more unrealistic and offensive the old dolphin diving knifing going on BF2; and the prone spamming knifing, like cutting someone in the foot would kill them in one hit yeah right.

maybe knifing shouldn't kill 100% of time. if u don't hit the vital spots, maybe it should just injure them.

But it's always been a one hit kill in many games; specially BF. the fact uyou had to spam it before was due to hitreg issues, but try BF2 with bots, or 2142, and you get one hit kills ON THE FREAKING HELMET. I've had flukes where knifing the gun on the other guy netted me a kill, so realistic my hairy behind. I can agree the autoaim is a bit too much, but imo it makes a satisfying splurch sound. One of the few games where it isn't a one hit kill by default is AVA, and then again, you can get it if you use alt fire.

one of my clan mates that's been playing for around a week has 800+ knife kills. he knifed me 7 times one game in a server full. i was pissed. he said he likes the knife better than the guns.
we have a few people that love just running around knifing people.

odd thing he pointed out yesterday. in game stat says he has over 800+ dogtags but when he looks up his stats online it only shows 725 knife kills.

I had a good one today; I was all set to knife a medic in the back, only he brings a guy back to life just before then and the knife autoaims on the guy that he rezzed, who is obviously invincible. This rez invinciblity crap is really starting to get to me. I have four shots with my shotgun and I do my damndest to make them count, so when I'm aiming at a medic and he rezzes a guy and that rezzed guy absorbs the slug it's quite annoying.
