To be honest, theyve ironed every possible bug out of that engine by COP, and it still has this very distinct graphical look about it. Its kind of like a STALKER trademark now. And the game still looks great, can be modded to look phenomenally with an SDK.

Kodak, I think the reason theyve ditched natural progression was to differentiate themselves from the other sequels. In case of COP, you start as if you were mid-chapter. I guess all of these little changes combined are what separate SOCH from COP/CS. However, keep in mind that you were playing a heavily modded version of the game. Vanilla experience would be unrecognizable at this point. Part of the reasons SOCH was so good was that it had years of modding behind it. Just a part, but still.

Emissions weren't in unmodded SoC... there might have been one somewhere as part of the storyline (was a while since I played the game) but not frequently.

Anyway, not gonna deny that they've done one hell of a job with the engine considering it was old even back in 2007, and it does give the game that distinctive look... but we're starting to get close to what we can do with the game, both modded and not. Would rather see them start with a new engine, or some sort of Xray 2.0. As good as the games are they could be a lot more complex and grand scale, and staying with the same engine would only stop them from going all out

yeah I'd rather see it on a new xray 2.0 than on the cryengine that it keeps on rumouring to be on. Though I think the xray engine does its job.

The blowouts were in, just disabled. In fact, most features you see in even the biggest global mods are only enabled, and tweaked a bit. This shows just how complex SOCH was.

As for STALKER being old? The only aspect it shows age is character animation. AI, features (by COP), quests and story progression are all top notch and well within modern times, especially considering the fact that its not an AAA class studio. Change the engine so the whole bughunt could start all over again? Absolutely no need.

Also, you probably havent seen the potential SOCH has alone, otherwise you wouldnt be talking about limits

I guess I'm just spoiled because the first time I played STALKER was with a mod pack that Chris sent me, so :hmm:

^yeah, I started out playing the Oblivion lost mod (which is just a plagarised AMK,give and take a few features) when I read on the official forums that he suggests anyone who plays it starts with the unmodded game. Im using a bugfix mod only but im still only up to just before the NPP and i started that game about a year ago.

                Re: Stalker:CoP

Playing SOCh unmodded is massochistic, if you try AMK+ a mix of certain mods, youll never go back.

Need to thank Sloi for pointing me out to AMK in the first place.

Got a 200MB mod pack right here, the one I gave Kodak. Youll feel the difference immediately. Let me know if you want to give it a try sometime.

Is it compiled by you? What mods does it contain in addition? I might pick it up sometime. I feel after I do my runthrough that O.L is overrated.

Ugh so pissed off. In anticipation of CoP arriving at my local game stores, I decided to finish the Game I started a year ago in SoC but to this day I havent finished, but that day will never come as the mod compilation I made is now corrupted, and I cant put the mod back together in the state it was when i was playing it so I have lost all my progress right up to the NPP!

the firefight outside of the NPP in SoC is still imo one of the most awesome pieces of gaming I have ever taken part in
