    Re: COD7 Monthly fee

I will not buy a game with a monthly fee so if COD7 will have it, then too bad, I guess I will have to play something else. Hopefully we will see some announcement during the summer, maybe there will be something for E3 in June. Or maybe they will let us know the 1st of november 10 days before release :|

      Re: COD7 Monthly fee

I know most people think it's pretty crazy to pay $15 a month for a FPS, since almost every one has just been the one time fee. However If anyone here has played planet side, you might understand that it can offer a lot that you can't get outside of a subscription method. Before BF2 and 64 players, Planetside had hundreds of players playing across the battlefield with thousands playing across the planet. It's something I haven't seen since.

Now with call of duty it doesn't make as much sense, since it's mostly a infantry game, and outside of the tanks in WaW, there have never been usable vehicles. However that might be part of the change, it's been a infantry only game for so long, a subscription might be hard to swallow, but think of the possibilities of COD and all kinds of vehicles and larger maps.

If they (either IW or Treyarch) somehow add in vehicles and still have it balanced as well as WaW, they could annihilate BF's sells. CoD's infantry gameplay is much more smooth in my opinion than BF's and that would be the BF series' downfall if CoD had vehicles. (balanced)

If Activision was to make the next call of duty a subscription based game, I don't see their theory behind treating PC gamers at all. Firstly they piss them off with No dedi servers + complete console port, and then to make up for it and try and win some PC gamers back, they make their next installment pay 2 play...

          Wait, wat.

Wouldn't surprise me if they did turn to subscription based model.

Not sure how well it would work though.

Its also rumored EA/DICE is trying to figure it out.

Someone is going to, its just a matter of when and if it will work.

They could market it as.... on, off type of thing...

"Like we all get bored of games after a while, so you don't have to pay the full price, just play a month, then rest"

                  This type of a thing.

                    Re: COD7 Monthly fee

Anyone who pays a monthly fee to play this game is a full out fool.... Think about it. People succumb to it thus catering to the company. If everyone refused to buy or even download the game just because it requires a monthly fee, the company would abandon the venture and leave it free....

I've never played WOW and never will because of this.

It's a GAME, as in fake, as in IT DOES NOT IMPROVE YOUR LIFE, as in IT'S NOT REALITY.

Man I pity people who do pay into $hit like this

                    Who cares!!!!!

They can add and make as many vehicles as they want, WE SHOULD NOT BE PAYING A MONTHLY FEE FOR IT!!!!!!

I agree. I think it's greedy and will not hold up. XBOX live is doing it. 60 per month but it will soon go up.... These games are like drugs and these companies are your pushers. Get you addicted and then sneak in monthly fees, it's just as unethical as dealing drugs.

Sure it does: it provides entertainment. Just like paying monthly for an internet connection or for cable TV, because it provides entertainment.

Also, WoW, from what I hear, is constantly updated with new bosses and raids and whatever else.

Apart from the fact that drugs are linked with gangs and violence and that companies don't ever force you to pay for a game which you've already bought and they "got you addicted to" and which did not have a monthly fee to begin with.

                        Re: COD7 Monthly fee

When BF2142 introduced in-game advertisement system, many cried wolf and call it lame. I said that it's better that the publishers make money out of advertisement than otherwise.

Depending on how they'd deliver the package, subscription based model may not be a bad idea. Sure it is bad for young people who don't have much money. The condition is that they keep adding and modifying game content as long as the system runs. $15/mon subscription is too steep. I would say that $5/mon, $3/0.5yr is more or less adequate.

Nevertheless, it is yet another sign that major publishers wants to eat the whole pie themselves. Online game today is segmented into different elements in the market. Clans bear the most brunt on maintaining servers, while individual players, such as me, get free ride. So, essentially, it's atomization of server slot renting. Clans based on local friends may get better deal with group bargaining power, which may not be a bad thing after all.

However, $50 game price plus online subscription fee is unacceptable. $50 game price should contain at least one year subscription.

Honestly, I would rather have ingame advertising paying the bills for constant updates and patching, than having to pay a monthly fee. They arent doing it for you, they are doing it for themselves.

I'd rather not shell out 60$ for a game, pay 60$/month for the internet to play the game then pay 15$/month to be able to play the game...

I can only hope that one day I'm paying $15 a month because that would mean someone finally did something right. Honestly though the only way a game could charge that much is if it had no competition.

Do you guys really think that just because you pay x amount per month you will get better policing, connection updates etc???? I call Bull$hit on that one. The way I see it companies love to throw us bones to keep us quiet. They will make promises, calm everyone down, slowly and cheaply introduce monthly fees and the slowly raise the monthly price. I've seen it many times before. When auto insurance became mandatory the insurance companies slowly increased their prices and now they totally RAPE the public. Sure some of it was because if crap drivers who kept getting into accidents but it doesn't explain how they now try to findevery excuse NOT to help you.....

Look all I'm trying to say is don't be fooled by all this bull$hit sweet talk that activision may feed you to try and make you feel "good" about them taking YOUR money every month. They are already charging us a stupid amount for the game but I'd rather pay the 60-70 dollars to get the game than get the game for free and be forced tipsy a monthly fee.
