Gameplay Report: Xbox 360 vs PC

Ok well i have played the beta on the PC for about 25 hours now and also played the demo on the xbox 360 for about 10 hours and i have noticed a very big difference between the two. Firstly i will say that performance issues regarding the PC in comparison to the console may be due to the fact that one is a beta and the other is demo and possibly a much later build.

Firstly i have to say and it saddens me but this game after playing it on both is very clearly meant for consoles and has been ported to the computer. The difference in main menu screens between the two is striking with imo the console main screen, stats page and progress page being much better and much more efficient at keeping track. The console menu screen flows much better than the PC which up until now i had no problems with.

I also noticed that in the beta it takes a while to process your score and unlock progression with the score you just received in the last game, i understand this may be due to the beta, however on consoles it is done much faster and you can join a game again in a matter of seconds instead of waiting for your rank to update.

The difference between the server browser and the match making is no different to any other game really. The match making usually finds a game instantly without problems. However the PC server browser at the moment is very flawed in the aspect you cant access your favorite servers without having to load the entire list of servers first.

In terms of gameplay the most noticeable difference for me was the fact that bullets on the 360 seem to be a lot more powerful and the hit registration on the consoles is simply 100% better than that on the PC. This was also noticeable in a laggy server where performance might have hindered the results but still brought back what i believed to be true. The guns themselves also seem to be a lot more accurate due to the fact a lot of recoil has been taken out of the console version which begs the question, is the recoil in the PC version what is causing the inaccurate weapons?

In terms of visuals and sound the PC wins hands down but this isnt to say that the 360's visuals are bad by any means.

This is just my observations so far for anyone wondering what the differences are or you are tied between which platform to get the game on. I personally have pre-ordered the game for PC but i am not 100% sold that this game will be better on PC rather than on a console.

PC is on a very old build, one of the devs said it was around 6 weeks old when it was first released (which makes it about 7 weeks old now). The PC beta was meant mainly as a performance test and clearly they do seem to have some problems with server stability and similar. :P

The console versions of the game are pretty much done now and has been sent off to Sony and Microsoft for verification, PC doesn't need this so they can focus on that now for a while. I wouldn't worry about the PC version being worse than the 360/PS3. :)

Isn't port more like taking game to a different platform without changing it? Which is not the case with BC2. Anyway, it really doesn't matter if the game is 'port' or not as long as it's done well and the game entertains me. (:

I've seen way worse attempts to port game to PC(hello borderlands and l4d2 consolish menu). Just wait until the final release before taking out your crying pillow.

..oooor maybe that's because in console versions you have ****ing aimbot to help you aim with a sucky analog controller. :P Just maybe? If any of you have actually played BF2/2142 I don't get how you can complaing about the hit reg. Hit reg was **** on those games people so look up to as being the best.

I was just rewatching some ps3 beta footage and the weapon damage seems way better even in that beta. And do headshots in the pc version even make a difference aside from extra points? To me it doesn't seem so.Hope this is just because we have an older build. This silly business of having to unload a whole clip to kill someone is kind of bumming me out.We shouldn't have to have a hardcore mode to kill properly.

I always held the view that people understood this would essentially be a console port?

BC2 for the consoles doesnt come with any form of aim assist and if it does it is turned off in the demo im sure of that. As for talking about bad hit reg with BF2/BF2142, you are talking about a game thats half a decade old, you would hope things would have moved on a bit.

@Chris, i do agree that i always thought this would be a port as BC did originally start on the consoles, however for me its about deciding who gets the more concentrated, worked on game. If BF3 is released on the consoles people will still complain its a port and imo BF3 will be a port just like BC2. There is no such thing as a PC exclusive anymore, especially with the bigger publishers.

I have to agree with this. The way things are going it seems more profitable for companies to release games on various consoles and PC than just PC alone. Of course you'll still get games like Crysis which will be released mainly for their graphics but even that is coming out on consoles now (Not that it will look as good). Especially with EA not having a good previous year this makes it all the more likely.

I think all you die hard PC fans are just gonna have to get used to getting games which are developed for both console and PC. We still get games ported on the PS3 anyway. Most multiplatform games are developed for the xbox and then ported to PS3 apart from a few exceptions. So games for both consoles tend to be more polished and less buggy for the xbox.

There are plenty of PC exclusives, and there will be many more... mark my words

That said I think people are overreacting most of the time when it comes to ports. Any feature they don't agree with is immediately a sign of a bad port and as such everything about that game sucks. :>

It is a console port, but not as bad of a port as MW2 and COD4.

COD4? I thought that game had everything you could ask for, dedicated servers, record, mod support, map tools and a console.

                      I agree with MW2 though.

As far as BC2 goes I wouldn't jump to conclusions just by playing the beta. The only real issues I see with the game are the slow menus, and that is nothing that they can't fix before release (or maybe it is fixed already?).

I do agree that people tend to overreact, but its only because the way things are changing, people are not used to getting a game that essentially feels second hand

So because it's an improvement over previous titles we are not allowed to ask for good hit registration? I'm not a big fan of complacency.

The new chipmunks movie might be better than the original, but that doesn't mean its worth the 7 dollar ticket price. Stop settling and demand good work!

CoD4 has wonderful hit registration. BF2's was AWFUL!

I will once again remind everyone of how things work at EA.

Games are made on a PC, for PC.

Xbox, has nothing to do with it.

PC Games are ported to the console.

Console games are NOT ported to PC.

It only goes one way. So any similarities you notice happened in the PC version first. Were designed for the PC version, and coded for the PC version. The Consoles are not involved in this process.

They are completely different builds, tested in completely different ways.

Please keep this in mind when complaining that its a "port" .

Because well, It's not. In any sense.

Does it share features with console ? Yah of course it does, why would you not use the same interface if you already had it coded ? Is it really nessecary for PC titles to be completely and totally different ? No it's not. You want Devs to make PC games , then they are going to save costs by sharing assets between platforms.

But it comes from PC first. Always.

Didn't know you worked at EA.

I doubt that's actually the process though.

I think you may be confusing how XBOX games are made.
