I bloody love it, the PS3 beta never had those tank sounds or the groaning a building makes when its about to collapse

it really raises the tension with the immense sound effects

It is a sound setting in the game. Just turn it on and join a server, it is awsome.

After playing a little more, I think Badlizzard is correct that though the vehicle and weaponry sounds are amazing, the soldier sounds are very lacking. You don't hear soldier movement or moving around upstairs. Maybe this will improve after the beta, but I don't think that soldiers had much sound in previous titles.

Well, since it is time for me to build a new rig, I guess I'll go all out on my sound card and pick up an Azune or Xonar finally. I never got the nice EAX sound that was available with BF2.

Well, you can of course do it to enjoy the sound in other games, but DICE has explicitly stated that BC2 does not use any fancy soundcard features, but instead uses the CPU for sound effects

What I found interesting is when I went into an empty server - I could hear my footsteps- my breathing etc... stuff I didnt hear before

a lot of stuf we got used to in BF2 is drowned out at the cost of realism

Usually I dont hear footsteps, but one time I was hanging back while the armor and action had moved on, and I could clearly hear someone running on the other side of the wall.
So the sound are there, but they are drowned out but the rest of the stuff. It may even be intentional

War Tapes is sooooo immersive but there's so much rumbling I can't play more than 1 or two rounds in a row before getting dizzy :P

I believe the sound effect is merely OK at best. Machine gun fires sounds so weak like pop guns, and you can not hear when the enemy approach you in a small room...just not realistic..
