That map is way too bright, lack of prone, tank drivers view is crap, guns are way underpowered.. it should not take half a mag to kill someone..

Well this is a dissapointment atm

The usual CTDs and then freeze on loading screen. The closest I have got to playing is hearing ingame sounds when frozen on loading.
PS. Goddamn the black bars (fov) rage me

        Re: First Impressions

I think the options can't be tweaked as much so you don't get the problem with BF2 and previous games: Lack of concealment.

My guess is you can only alter resolution, AA, texture quality and background distance viewing; some physics effects like heat distortion, and dynamic lightning, shadows don't seem affected much.

But at least they are clear on the requirements; the bare minimum recommended are cards in the 150 USD+ range; but the graphics are worth the money you have to put in. I think there is an FPS lock on the game so it evens out people with strong PCs to the ones not so powerful, really; what's the point of getting a game like this if you want to play it with pixeled textures and no shadows? A lot of the greatness is the atmosphere.

Funnily enough, the map released for this beta makes you wonder what 2142 would be with this engine.

Can't wait to test it and bring it on with the COD community I belong. It bought some servers for COD4 and COD5, and just get aslept waiting for the FPS after COD6 (pain in the *** for FPS communities and servers admins) : bring it on BFBC2 with custom servers again !

1st impression, well it looks fantastic, but even with a 31 ping I could barely move. I hope they get the lag issue addressed soon.

Sound is great. Damage is great. Video is great.

The character movement is a bit sluggish. I dont know if thats lag or not. It seems like my guy has heavy armor on, kinda like 2142 and has a limp.

Overall this is a great beta game. It will take some getting used to.

lol how about bf2 with this engine (i never got used to playing 2142)
and i know what you mean, every time a battlefield game comes out i get a new machine. got this when bf2 first came out and have to upgrade now for bc2
but i'm debating whether i should get a 360 instead. i love playing on the pc though.
it's just that it's gonna cost me the same as a new video card if i get a 360 and most of my friends are getting it for the 360 and don't have to worry about issues like this

i'll wait a little more and then decide. as far as first impressions go, it's not as epic as i hoped it would be (especially with no prone) but still a better game than mw2 imo.

                  Re: First Impressions

I found the graphics options, but yeah... Ping? this is PC you need to see your ping...

Also the lag is tremendous. I had to stop after the sounds kept repeating themselves when you fire manual shots. Also as Crunch said you SPRINT waaaay too slow.

But if they iron out the creases its looking promising.

This game is amazing, can't wait for the final version. I'm so glad I pre-ordered.

Check the server when you join, I just got in a dallas server; but I was getting into UK based servers.

That's the source of the ungodly lag, it's connecting you to whatever server has slots open regardless of your location.

I don't know if you have played the xbox or ps3 version, with a 7900 GT and just one gig of ram and 512 vram on default settings you get the look, with AA and AF turned off, you get the performance of the console version, at 1440*900 I wouldn't play this on console and have to pay for the Live Gold fee; the PS3 version is just slightly better looking really.
                      Great game so far.

On other topic, I feel the sprint speed on par with BF2142; the game is fluid enough as it is, it's very offensive with the difference being that with out the wonky collision boxes, you have a chance to actually defend; in this game, it will really make a difference, almost no spray and pray; calculated and well aimed shots make a big difference even with the lag we are getting.

Sniper central so far eh? Played quite a few rounds where more than half of the attacking and defending teams were doing nothing but sniping away.Good times.

I think if the guns were a teensy but more accurate then it would be perfect, but as for now the game is loads and loads of fun!

Oh, and people team stack like crazy. :-/

Installed new drivers and can play now

                            Its awesome
the sounds make me have an accident in my pants

the only thing I need now is the G15 app that shows your ping (you dont see it on the scoreboard).

But you can if you join a server, leave; and use the servers tab on the right. I got myself a 94 ping server
