How about someone makes a CoD4 mod which reskins and re-powers all the weapons to those of MW2? So it's CoD4 with a MW2 skin, and CoD4 maps, if you know what I mean.

    I'd play that.

Didn't IW say sometime that MW2 would have a couple of the old CoD4 maps as well as new ones, or is that something I made up... :p

Now thats my opnion, based on having played all three games so there is no point arguing it. Others may feel differently, but as I said before it makes no sense to keep the COD series in stasis forever.
        Agree, gimme 5 or mw2 over 4.

Since 2004, COD4 has delivered the best infantry game on any platform, with meticulous balance and detail. I wasnt a fan of the game at first and its not on my "the best" multiplayer list, but as Dairuka pointed out way back, the strange absence of "its overepowered, its unbalanced" threads gave everyone with some analytical skills an idea just how well the game was made.

The level design is brilliant. It uses the same kind of level design philosophy that CS uses (1 main route, 1-3 flanking routes, funneled action), which means that most maps are playable from 1 vs 1 format, up to 12 vs 12.

The weapons are distinctively different from each other, even though they dont require nearly the ammount of "training" or individual skill that for example SWAT4 does (game requires player to literally readjust their gameplay for every weapon), but the perks, attachments and their effects severely affect how the player is going to play and perform on every single map.

Except that it appears to me that MW2 is in artistic stasis, considering that everything it does, is worse than it is in COD4. The only thing that is "better" is the number of SFX, like in a typical Michael Bay sequel. The sequel is almost always worse, yet it has more explosions and more deaths.

Gone is the level design. Its now focused on more "tactical" gameplay, which means chaotic, round-shaped level design without flow, which in turn promotes less agressive gameplay, and agressive gameplay has *always* been COD franchise trademark. Hollywood authenticity.

IW forums are full of people complaining about weapon balance being gone. Or as many put it, theres no need to use SMG-s anymore.

And of course, the mandatory "matchmaking sucks and bring back dedis" part.

Now, you tell me the game is better in design, quality, thought and effort and I will show you a liar.

Ive always said and thought, that even though people shouldnt like COD4 if they dont, but they should always appreciate just how much has been put into the game. The level of detail, work and effort put into its every aspect is staggering, and is something I havent seen in a long time. Certainly not from DICE.

            I remembered the same.

Anyways, my point is that CoD4 maps are better in terms of balance - thus improving gameplay. While you may like the new, fresh MW2 maps, they just seem like they were thrown together with little concern for balance.

Edit: Chris saves the day yet again.

i think maps in MW2 are much more balanced than MW1. some of the MW1 maps were a total joke.

This couple of opposing quotes once again proves that the feeling of "balance" is entirely subjective.
So those who prefer COD4 would like to see MW2 turned into COD4.1, while others prefer that the old stuff stick to the old game.
Personally, I stopped playing COD4 for a reason (besides being bad at it, or "casual" if you prefer that label ) and a great part of the attraction of MW2 is not having to play the old, tired maps over and over again.

Of course I wouldnt hurt me if they were released for MW2, as long as they were kept out of the ordinary map rotation

Re: Porting cod4 maps? / Are they better?

After playing a lot of the MW2 maps, they in my opinion better, not to say 4's were that bad.

The nature of the maps of 'tactical' elements that Chris described are what give the maps more variation and re playability, sure its still essentially AvsB ends of the map, a middle, two flanks. However, the fluidity of the maps allow the battle to revolve over nearly the whole map so when you spawn you are most likely playing out a different battle in a different part of the map (obviously not the same in some game-modes). But then again, not everyone has learnt where to go at the start of every round etc.

MW2, the game itself, Is not really that different, the same core gameplay is still there albeit a little slower.
