Many of you know me as an avid Call of Duty 4 player, one who was completely against Modern Warfare 2. I come from a competitive background, playing various leagues in CoD4 where I made a name for myself, and I had my hopes up for competition to move to MW2. So why did I buy it, even though it lacks any competitive features, dedicated server support, console, and other notable features? It's simple really.
I want to play for fun. Sure, I enjoy competing, and I strive to be the best at what I do, but there's a point where you have to realize what you're doing with the game. Back in Battlefield 2, which was before I entered competitive gaming, I could spend hours just having fun with my friends - I wasn't required to be online for practice, I didn't have to manage a team, and I didn't have to sacrifice some of my nights to make a match. While I feel MW2 could have been executed much better, I think that overall it is a fun game to just pickup and play with your friends - and, surprisingly, many of my friends in the competitive community have purchased it as well.
Now look, I'm just as upset as many of you with the removal of the recording feature, dedicated servers, everything. However, despite those features being gone, I'll have the chance to enjoy pubbing again, and playing games for fun with my friends. Sure, we'll still play to win, but there's just something about picking up a game and playing it as a game, and not solely as a competition. The game is something new and fresh, sure it's the same engine, but the new maps and weapons will breathe new life into the game - because, quite frankly, while I had fun competing in CoD4 it got boring when you knew every single nade/jump/bounce/etc. on a map. I'm hoping patches will bring some of the requested features to MW2, but until then I'll enjoy my consolized game
.
So, I guess to add some discussion to this - do you agree with purchasing it because its something fresh, or will you stay away because of the removed features?
