why would you not want the latest drivers? if there are no issues, keep the latest drivers. it will save you headaches in the future. they're like patches, would you want to play the earliest version of BF without patches?

Well, if you come to the end of your tether, you could get a cheap soundcard and disable onboard sound altogether.

Don't get me wrong - i fully understand. It's just that on my previous PC - I played BF2 with no has. (let's just say it wasn't the original) - I loaded the same one onto my new machine - got the prob - bought the original - worked and then failed just like the copied one I had. Man, I tel ye...its frustration like you wont understand...when you crave for the action after a hectic day just to go ape s**t and get trigger happy and find the darn thing just don't work - hell ye---that helps.

Its then when I started discovering that I'm not the only one with hassels as I jumped from one forum to the next.


And must admit....you guys helped alot so far, lets just hope these new updates work...its weekend you know! I'm looking at all possibilities to get the darn game to work to L.A.N with my mates.

You have got the latest 1.5 patch right? That added an updated OpenAL driver which might have caused the issues or could solve them :p

But honestly... a sound card rather than on-board? Does it actually make a huge diff.
maybe ya right, if all fails then that might be the last straw I need to pull.

The thing that gets me the most is...is all other games work 100% - maybe it is the VOIP causing all this tilt.

Um, well you need the latest patch to play online and they fix a lot of bugs and crashes...

You need to download patch 1.41 and patch 1.5.

Install 1.41 and then install 1.5 after that. You need to do them both as the latter is only incremental.

Alex, you might be right! Let me download it tonight and try it - maybe all the BS that was caused was due to my lack of judgment.

All I know is that the latest 1.5 patch updated compatibility with audio as they used a newer OpenAL driver. This fixed a few issues for me. Patches are always released for a reason, usually to fix problems, so always stay up to date.

Plus, if you want to play online, all the servers will be running 1.5 anyway.

Yup, if you have SF, it should go like this.

Install BF2, Install BF2: SF, install patch 1.41, install patch 1.5

Booster packs are free in 1.5, so don't bother installing them manually.

Hey guys I eventually came right - I updated sound drivers and guess what no JOY but Alex you guys where right, it was something to do with sound.

The VIA HD Audio DECK on my left hand bottom corner was the culprit (this is the manager that allows the user to change and manipulate sound options) , - I deleted/uninstalled all sound related sound drivers and only installed the Realteck driver excluding VIA HD Audio Deck Manager and now my game works.
