Ive decided that I am getting it. The #1 reason is because I now have a deal to get it on the cheap. The #2 reason is since so many are dropping it without knowing anything about the setup and there not being a demo, I wont get to see what the game is about. So I will be that person that tries it out and reports back to you all.

It may be utter fail. But now that I am getting it on the cheap, its no loss to me. I dont play mods and I said a long time ago that when CoD4 came out with ranks, thats what killed the modded community. Look at how many mods there are for 4 and 5 vs 1, UO and 2. I dont mean just choices but active playing mods.

The way to select how to play bothers me. I go to specific servers, but not being in a clan, I do roam a lot also. I like having my favorite haunts, but we don't know what IWnet can or cant do. Im looking forward to more information on it.

Anyway, for those of you that are still going to get it, if you would like to help me test it out and go through it, I plan to fraps it and throw it up on youtube, please PM me or add me to xfire and let me know you are getting it and we will test it out. I am based in the US and tend to play somewhere around 6pm - 9pm CST.

More and more games are going this way. I really believe Battlefield will also head this route. We need to learn how it works and how to work with and around this type of system. Not just for sakes as gamers, but our sakes as friends, fans, and clans of the community.

And if this is the future of PC gaming and it's just like the consoles, I'm switching hobbies. I'll buy guns or something. Maybe just airsoft. Either one will be cheaper than PC gaming, and if this ruins it I won't be spending >$1000 on games and ~$400 on parts every year. And it's nice they're saving my the ~$10-50 a month I've been contributing to clan servers.

I agree. People thought I was crazy about not pre-ordering MW2. I was told I was NUTZ, straight up. I heard it all, "This is IW, they made CoD4 and it was awesome." "Treyarch sucked and IW made a better game and will do it again." on and on and on.

See what happens when I am right?! :laugh: I said in another post some time back that I hope I was wrong, because if I am not, we are all screwed.

We talk about the decline of PC gaming and we see more and more ports. Some are done right and some are not. I really think this will be one that will not, but some of us have to look into it because like jockyicht said to joker, its like trying to fight a tidle wave. You will survive it if you go with it and you can then use that power to get back to shore. That or eaten by sharks

But anyway, I try to keep a level head about all this and I dont want to be extreme in either direction. I dont think its a good move and I do think its the end of CoD for PC, but there are still a TON of questions that need answering.

I can tell you all that if PC gaming is dead, I am retiring myself. I started gaming on console, but after the things I have seen that PC can do, I dont want to go back to console. There is too much PC can do and so much fun to be had. I guess I will stick with my Wii and retire if this is the end

Not buying. I was actually close to picking it up but I guess IW/Activision made the decision for me. Thanks!

Not buying unless there is a radical swap to dedicated servers again (unlikely).

Only thing I can think is, why fix something that isn't broken?

You guys are certianly missing the whole point of matchmaking. You can still group with buddies and clan mates through a buddy list system, sort of like xfire, but build into Steam. Clans will save on renting servers, thus dues might be not as big an issue like before.

I hate match making in multiplayer games. I think it respresents all that is wrong with console multiplayer. Every match making service I have tried has been a horrible experience mostly because of lag. With that said, I am all for having match making services on PC games for the people who prefer that as long as they still put in dedicated server support as another option for those of us (92k and counting on the petition (sadly though it probably won't work)) who do not want to deal with it.

I am annoyed that Infinity Ward/ Activition are completely neglecting the whole aspect of servers and what they represent to tens of thousands people who play PC multiplayer games. Dedicated servers are many things to different people and to deny that they should exist is a mistake. Private matches are not a substitute to dedicated servers. If Infinity Ward can make the match making service work and not have lag issues like all match making services, then fine. Good for you, you did something that works without much issue, but that still doesn't mean it should be the only way to play multiplayer.

Having a match making service and dedicated servers would have been the smartest thing to do to bring in new players as well as appease the current install base of CoD players. I doubt that it would have cost them too much to add in dedicated server support. I don't see any reason to get rid of a system that has been in place for 15+ years that has worked great, in favor of something new that they just cooked up and will force feed it to the PC CoD community.

First, VAC is supposed to only get hackers, not griefers and padders. Show me an anti-cheat app that knows who is griefing and who is not.
Second, VAC gets the public hacks. Still better than nothing.

I had some fun with both COD:MW and COD:WaW, but ultimately they both devolved into run-and-gun with full auto weapons on a small selection of CQB maps.
So I think I will pass on a even more consolelified version.
As always, a MP demo may change my mind.
