    Re: Prone

seeing as BC2 is going to be on PC it should at least have that feature added to it so, long as they want the game to take off and not flop they should have the ability to go prone

      Re: Prone

From all of the BC-2 videos i have seen all of them have the snipers and others just taking a knee and not going prone.

But all them videos are for the consoles , but would they really add prone to the PC version and not for consoles ??? , then the video that was shown back in April will be missleading to console players.

Am really not sure what DICE are doing with this one

        Re: Prone

GVD said in one video I already posted in other thread, that they are considering prone for pc and that they understand PC is different.

lol it's funny if you can only prone in PC version.

when did it become wrong to be able to prone in console games?

My thoughts exactly. How ridiculous is it adding "Prone" to the PC version? Why not just have it in for all versions of the game instead of giving yourself more work once the game has been completed?

As both a PC and console Battlefield player I see no reason why it shouldn't be in the console version if they are going to put it in the PC version. Otherwise your basically making a cut down version of the game for console players and according to DICE themselves they said they wanted to make both versions basically the same. Is this what console players want, a cut down version? I don't think they would. We already know that the console version will have less players for whatever reason but apart from that and maybe map size (due to player count) I would expect the console version to be the same or why the hell would I pay more twice as much for a copy on my PS3 than on my PC?

Did you read Zerks response. He said that DICE tried prone on consoles and resulted in a slower pace and lead people to camping for than before. The reason for the slower pace was because people could just sit there and not get hit. So with no prone, the players has to think more and get out of the way, resulting in a faster pace gameplay.

Seems reasonable to me. Doesn't really concern me since I'll be getting the PC version.

                    Re: Prone

yeah doesn't really concern me either since i won't ever be playing the console version.

i guess it explains the decision a bit though. but even in COD MW where you can prone, the games seems to have a fast pace.

perhaps prone should only be given for weapons that have bipods.

Reading fail or you didnt read the post, let me quote it here so you can read it.

DICE feels that because the console versions of the game is at such a lower resolution (1280x720)//0,9mpix//, compared to PC resolutions (as high as 2560x1600)//4mpix+AA//, that prone was breaking the fast paced action of the game and that it was too camper friendly. When DICE played with prone on consoles other players were nearly impossible to see while prone(//because of the low res and anyone who was too far away and prone was only on few pixels almost impossible to spot)
So there you go, it cant be on consoles for obvious reasons (hardware limitations), but that doesnt mean PC must suffer because of outdated console hardware. As he said, " If you wanted a more powerful game, you should have bought a more powerful platform, plain and simple."

Im not trying to start "console vs pc flame" every platform has its advantages and disatvantages. Graphics, performance and controls(FPS, RTS, RPG) are pc advantages. Prize(discutable), plug&play, comfy sitting in front of tv, controls(racing games, flying etc.) are console advantages, but thats obvious for non-fanboy people.

Its my bad I didn't see the link in the earlier post to the interview.

So basically because the console has 12 a side player limit they have removed prone. I find it hard to believe that the console versions of battlefield can't have more than 12 players a side becuase of hardware limitations. Just look at MAG. I've been quite happily playing 256 player and 128 player games with no lag. Granted there isn't any destructable environments but thats a massive difference in player count. Its hardly a Battlefield with 12 players a side is it really?

This quote is just plain stupid. " If you wanted a more powerful game, you should have bought a more powerful platform, plain and simple."

A lot of people can't afford to have top of the range gaming PC's or consoles. I have a PS3 and a PC but I stopped upgrading my PC an bought a PS3 purely for the fact that it was too expensive to keep upgrading my PC all the time. I'm sure they're not complaining that more people are buying games like mirrors edge on consoles than on PC.

It seems like they're just making excuses for making a lesser game for consoles when they already said they wanted to make their console game like their PC games with little or no differences. There are plenty of other console FPS that have prone as someone mentioned before without it affecting the speed of the gameplay. So saying that its a hardware limitation seems like another lame excuse.

We already pay a premium for console games compared to prices of PC games and I'm sure they aren't complaining about all the extra money they get from console sales. So is it unreasonable that we should expect their console version to be like the PC versions of games when its DICE themselves who are raising the expectations of console players only to dissapoint. I'm still doubtful that the mic problem will be fixed for BC2.

MAG is a platform specific game, they only needed to optimize it for PS3, and static maps take very little hit on the networking performance. With destructible environments, any tiny little bit of wood that is chopped of a tree must be updated on everyone's game at once together with the normal stuff. Not to mention vehicles and things like that.

And really, more players != better game

There are vehicles in MAG (granted not as many but they are still present). I do agree that more players equals a better game. I don't think the destruction can have that big affect (256 players compared to 24) otherwise the imporved destruction would have affected playercount in the new game as it is more complex.

                              Re: Prone

Mag is different engine and different game. Destruction is really heavy on resources and bandwith. And there are bandwith limits on consoles dice cant break.
Bandwith increases exponentionally with each player. So for now its not possible for consoles. But they can make it for pc and they will do it because PC crowd is different and most pc players wouldnt buy simple port from consoles. Online FPS on pc needs Dedicated servers and clan support otherwise it will fail. Its not about discriminating console players. They are not punishing your or something they are giving you as much as they can. BFBC2 will be great on both platforms but for pc they have to add some specific features.

P.S. Upgrading pc hardware is not THAT expensive. If you build good pc(not from ripoff companies like dell hp etc) you can upgrade it easily.
