I have been playing Battlefield since the beginning and i have loved and still love the game. Having just come back to it since the new patch and a new breath of life to the game it has started to hit me that this game is 4 years old, and it feels it.
I know that BF2 holds nothing today over games in terms of graphics and bugs etc but i feel that recent games such as CoD4 and others have almost spoiled us. I have been playing for a few hours now and i already feel as though i am again done with it. The game was great in its day when CTD issues and constant bugs and crashing was a regular thing for most games, but now 4 years on, playing BF2 feels more like a chore.
Im not hating on the game as i never would, BF2 has given me hundreds of hours of fun i just feel that 4 years on from its release im over it.
Does anyone here remotely know what im getting at or feel the same way?
I kind of feel the same way. I have been playing since 2005 and I've noticed that the better I became the more stress I felt when playing.
There's a certain level of performance you expect from your team when you are playing and after playing for 5 years and having so much experience playing, you tend to get downright pissed when your team is too stupid to play at your level.
Things like idiot commanders, people who don't communicate and medics, engineers and support who won't help, not to mention squad members who don't "spawn on green" when asked. All this makes for a less than enjoyable experience and I love it when I take a break from it all. Hey it's still summer. We should be out there enjoying it instead of in here bitching lol.
In all honesty though, I'll take B2 over COD4 Any day and twice on Sundays. COD4 is too fast and this, for me, really takes away from the realism.

Agree. I was so excited for this recent patch but i have already found myself bored with it again.
We need an entirely new game. Hopfully BC will be that game.
one thing BF has over COD is the replay value. COD feels so confined and also like milndless fragging without no clear objective. feels like playing Q3A or UT DM with modern warfare skin.

So true, but as with every on-line FPS other players ultimately ruin the game. Attitude: if its allowed I will do it regardless of other players game experience ... or ... game allows me to do this so I will do it and I don't care if 20 other players find this annoying ... has ruined so many games. Too bad those players don't apply this to real life and jump of the bridge to the concrete below because it is allowed :)

Just because you can play a certain way and do certain things in a game does not mean you should do so. This applies in pretty much all games, not just online. I'm sure there's a scrotehead Zerg Rush strategy to Monopoly and Pokemon...

This is why I feel BF2 is still a "top trump" in the FPS community, there is pretty much no other game like BF2, all the other FPS' out there are all based on small maps possesing maybe 1, 2 maybe 3 major points on the map (bombs, capture the flag gamestyles, HQ from CoD etc). Whereas on bf2, you have obviously 2 or 3 main flags, then a host of others that always play vital importance.
Also the persistance in stats is nice for the casual and Hardcore gamer, I love getting medals :yay:.
I was excited about 1.5 coming out and it hasn't disappointed, but I have to agree with the OP. I have just reached 50,000 points and have all the guns now and most of the other objectives are a long way away.
I get pissed off with playing on my own now so I restrict it to a few hours on a Sunday when I squad up with three friends, it feels as if there is more point to it.
Why not take the advice of the 21CW recruiters and join their weekend fragfests where teamplay and communication is the order of the day? Or as has been posted try some mods, I'm definetely going to give FH2.2 a go.
I'm in the same boat as the OP but for a different reason,
I don't care about bugs that much, but I'm over the game as a whole, Call of Duty is just so much faster, you can just jump in and play a quick game and then turn it off, whereas with BF2 it requires more dedication.
The other thing i find with BF2 is you can go a whole 64 player round where you might only see 10 or 15 enemies and it can get tiresome looking. In comparison to the faster games on the market nowadays we dont have this problem, however im not saying that means gameplay is therefore improved.
BF2 is a very unique game, even today. No other game matches its style of arcady, comical warfare. Also, the game graphics are beautiful even today, and most modern computers can run the game decently.
But still, it does feel old and i can't wait until BF3 comes out. For now, i'll continue playing. At least a few of the new maps are fun (like OBP) so i'm not bored of Karkand and Wake all the time.

Dont know what you are doing on battlefield i see more ppl than i would like to see. Mayby you schould leave the sniper class and get of the hill
