I have never had a problem as far as I remember installing BF2 and/or patches on vista and windows 7 (both 64 bit).

It always crashes/freezes/locks-up at the very end and will not respond (same in both Vista and Win7 x64) on the dozen or more computers I've installed the damn game on (different configurations)! So thank you, Mr. Constructive Comment.

I say it because I dislike people saying something is broken or such when it clearly isn´t. I haven´t had a problem on both, so I don´t know where the problem is coming from but you can´t just assume and give the impression that because you have a problem everyone on vista will also have a problem because it simply isn´t true. Maybe you should investigate the problem your end rather than blame the game.

I never had a problem either installing BF2 on Vista 64 bit. Sounds like an user problem to me.

Same here. No problems installing on: XP Home 32-bit, Vista Home Premium 32-bit and 64-bit, Win7 RC 64-bit.
Now, I don't just sit and watch the patches install or anything. I start it up and go do something else for a bit. So I have no idea how long it takes other than it's less than 30 minutes.

Speak for yourself, sportsfan. I've never had problems installing BF2, BF2 patches, or SF on Vista 32bit

Exactly, the same with Windows 7. The only thing is the notification, that the game wasn't tested on these OS, but nothing more.

I find it amusing that the BF2 Complete Collection installs BF2 1.0, followed by SF, followed by 1.41, then EF, then 1.41 again, then AF, then 1.41 again. It takes ages and I can't for the life of me figure out why they didn't just create one unified installer.

Basically, if they can't figure that one out, they definitely won't be able to do a unified 1.50 installer. :p

P.S.: I've installed and played BF2 on Vista 32, Vista x64, Server 2008 x64, and Win7 x64. No installer problems whatsoever.

The only issue i could ever see is accumulating all these patches because whether they are incremental or full, it's still the same content.

It just makes starting fresh a little harder if you dont have the patches.

I've never had a problem installing any BF games.

lol for me installing BF2 complete collcection on my current rig is a nightmare, and when I say installing I mean installing it so I dont get modified content errors when I try and join a sever.

I guess you could burn the Battlefield 2 folder onto a DVD-R and backup the BF2 registry. In theory the game should run with only those two things.

I've noticed that more often than not game installers tend to add some extra hidden reg keys to prevent your suggestion. I find it completely asinine. If I remember correctly, I tried to copy BF2 in this manner, but failed to locate all the components of the install.

There is probably a way to do it. I'll bet with a little work you could use universal extractor to pull the 1.41 and 1.5 patches apart, update all the files to "1.5", then repackage it.

Interesting to note, this is how the linux 1.41 server patch was made since EA never released one. :hmm:

Pretty sure there are no 'hidden' entries and the install path and version entries are only required to install patches. I believe the only registry entry BF2 needs to run is the CD key ('ergc'). However, the key either needs to be entered manually (in regedit) with a x9392 prefix or you must use the utilities to enter and hash it after restoring from backup; the hashed version of the key is tied to a specific Windows UID value so you can't just copy it to a different copy of Windows.
