    anti-karkand thread

anyone else here agree that karkand is a bit over-rated and over-played in BF2?

personally i'll be quite annoyed if they had a re-make of karkand in BF3, but it wont be so bad if there loads more maps.

i think less urban and more jungle in general.

cause jungles the 'thing' these days with FPS, with crysis out and all that.

As long as there are stats there will be point whores, and as long as there are point whores there will be Strike at Karkand or a map like it; one that garners a lot of points for little effort. Karkand in BF2, Gibraltar in BF2142, and I'm sure BF3 will have its own version. If things are left the way they are in BF2 and BF2142 (and since it's such a successful formula there's no reason it won't be) where communities can rent their own servers and play 24/7 maps, eventually over half the servers around will be running that map 24/7, guaranteed. If they do a bit better job of balancing the aircraft vs. ground this time around it may be a somewhat smaller number, but the aircraft in BF2142 are perfectly balanced and still there's no shortage of 24/7 Gib servers.

Personally I wouldn't mind if they simply re-made Karkand, since it will be moot in the long run anyway.

Karkand is what brings noobs back to bf2 for pts. No really. Take a tank, wait at the hotel spawn fire the machine gun and boom. You get points like crazy.

only way to get rid of these karkand-camp g maps are if they don't keep score.

no pts, nobody will play those maps.

Well, I for one like Karkand. I prefer IO over vehicles simply because it's a quicker game with more balanced action. I choose Karky 24/7 servers not because I love stats, but because i've seen more teamwork on that map than any others.

People actually squad up and try to cap back flags. Obviously you get public servers which are awful, but find a good clan run Karky 24/7 and it's hugely fun.

Also, before people start whining about grenade spamming, learn to avoid it. Running into the middle of a flag will get you killed. If you learn to play smart, then you'll do well.

I agree. People are probably doing teamwork (throwing medpacks etc ) for their own benefit but your still helping your team at the end of it all. Karkand has everything, it's got opportunities for snipers, it's got close quarter combat with knives etc.. it's got armor as well. The only thing it doesnt have is Air, but thats fine because you wouldnt want air vehicles on a map that small.

I believe if your Anti-Karkand, you must be Anti BF2. It does literally pack in nearly all the key elements of BF2 into one map.

Sorry, gotta steal a smiley from the EA forums for this one.

To preface, I have no problem with people who enjoy Karkand, although people who clamour for IO do leave a bit of a sour taste in my mouth (nothing personal Alex, you're still the man  ), but to say that Karkand is representative of BF2 as a whole is a quite a load of horse droppings. A big reason people play it in the first place is because they don't like being killed by aircraft. It's the only map in all of BF2 (vanilla) that has no aircraft whatsoever; not even a transport heli. Therefore, it also has no AA stations or AA vehicles. There are also no fast attack vehicles. How about boats? The carrier? Colours other than shades of orange and brown? Personally I really enjoy BF2, and while a round of Karkand is fun once in a while, it's by no means representative of the entirety of BF2. It may give you an adequate sample of the type of many of the people still left in the community, but not the game as a whole. The reason people used to play it before IO was because of all the things it lacked, not because of their inclusion. Throw IO into the mix which removes even more and you are essentially left with a broken unbalanced mess of an FPS game. Kind of like a blender if you removed its electrical cord and blades and were forced to mix everything up using a wooden spoon and your fist. In such a case, why even have a blender?

                Re: anti-karkand thread

I don't think one map and gameplay mode can represent BF2. Part of the popularity of it is that it appeals to so many gamers. Whilst there are only 2 real modes, IO and vehicles, within that, there are hundreds of sub games and playing styles.

Everyone is opinionated and will find some of those types of gameplay enjoyable and others hugely annoying. For example, you get the competitive players who aim to get the most kills and be at the top of table. They are usually the ones who resort to extreme measure not to get hit such as diving, bunnyhopping etc... there is nothing wrong with it, it's just a type of play.

On the other hand, you have the teamplayer who simply wants their team to win and if this is at a cost to your player, so be it, at least you're all pushing in the same direction. But, the problem lies in the fact that you bunch all these different types of people together and you simply get a mess. Complaints, hackusations, name calling and the like. This is why I believe clan run and ruled servers (where the employ their own rules) work well because they often only appeal to certain players and thus, the cluster**** effect is reduced. This is why non-clan public servers are notoriously bad.

To conclude, you have to accept that people are different and find fun in different ways. Whilst it may not be to your liking, it's unfair to judge them for that. It's the same with this thread, you may not like Karkand, but for thousands of others (such as me) it's great. You should try not to judge others because they have their own opinions. Find a clan run server that has rules you like and stay there. You'll find it a whole lot more fun than if you roll from server to server.

Karkand with vehicles is fine. IO is garbage, I hate that setting, because its almost impossible to find karkand with vehicles. IO just doesnt fit in battlefield. It was always about vehicles not throwing grenades as far as possible. I hope IO setting is not in bf3.

It will be. So many people like it. I get fed up with running around maps being blown up by vehicles because there are none left for me.

So IO just makes it a fair fight

OR they will make vehicles less overpowered and IO mode wont be implemented. IO just makes it stupid not fair, stupid nadefest nothing else. Battlefield without vehicles is ... just .... battlefield without vehicles. :dead:

                            I love me some karkand

I can't understand why people want to play it with 64 players IO though... 24 players on the largest map size is great fun, squads move around in little packs and as said, much less spam and more 1v1 situations.

The only thing I hate about karkand is The US base is closer to the hotel so they have tanks there faster. Everything else is fine from what alex said, Play smart and you wont get nade spammed.
