Fifa 10 or Pro Evolution 2010

This is not necessarily a debate about which is superior, but I'm trying to decide which one to buy as I really do not see the need, or want, two futbol games. I play these on the pc, but I do have a ps3, better to buy on that?

I own Fifa World Cup '06, Fifa '08, and Fifa '09 on the pc, but I am open to Pro Evo if it is suggested by enough with some reasons behind it I guess. I'm not a fanboy of Fifa, I've just bought them before and have enjoyed them. Well, World Cup 06 and Fifa 09 I have, I did not particularly like Fifa 08. I've heard from some people that Pro Evo is better, but if I don't see reasons justifying it, I have just thought there might be some fanboyism involved also.

There are a bunch of games that are going to be coming out that I want to buy, and I'm trying to figure out which ones to get as I only have so much moola and time.

Pro Evo 08 was diabolical on the PS3 atleast, didn't play any more after that. I tend to prefer Fifa but without neither of these two being released or even a demo, it's kinda difficult to help you out

PES09 was pretty bad on the PS3, however, on PC and Xbox360, Pro Evo is a lot, lot better. So, Alex votes Pro Evo 2010.

Fifa is better for graphics and licensed content
Pro Evo is better for real gameplay (not scripted like Fifa).

I have never played PES but have bought most of the Fifa games and enjoyed them all, again not because im a fan boy, but because i have just followed the trend of buying it every year.

From what i am told the major difference between the two is the fact that Fifa can feel a little staged and quite predictable in what can happen e.g. shoot from the halfway line and the keeper will calmly collect it.

However with PES i have heard its far more unpredictable (in a good way) in the respect that it flows more like a real game and shooting from 30 - 40 yards out isnt always a bad idea. e.g. you can have a long range crack and still trouble the keeper, hit the crossbar etc.

^QFT. I figured there have been enough games in both of these series in the past, and there is a decent amount of info out about these upcoming games, si we could surmise a possible guess of what will be the best choice.

Thanks Alex and Eliminator, I do like games that look good, but so far, PES2010 might be better looking than usual, they have done a lot to their game from what I've heard. I do like the idea of being able to take an ill-advised shot sometimes and still being able to make it. Maybe I've never noticed many of the scripted things b/c I've never played PES.

Isn't Fifa 10 supposed to be less scripted? I think I heard they were listening to fans requests on that. Or maybe they meant the cut scenes between plays, I can't remember.

And as for the licensed content, does PES not have the real-life players in it?

Well, PES started off with no licensed teams, players, grounds or anything. But, over the years they have gained more and more, however, whilst they have the majority of foreign teams and players (from European leagues), they don't have all the teams/players from the Premier League (UK). However, on PC and Xbox (not sure about PS3), you can manually edit teams, so I just change the team names (players seem to be correct anyway actually). They also have licensing for the Champions League which is very nice and they have implemented it well.

Basically, if you've never played a football game, you might want to start with Fifa. It's more scripted in that when you take a shot, it feels like there are only 10 or so possible outcomes. On PES, if you take a shot, you literally have no idea what is going to happen. It could go in, be saved, hit the bar, hit the bar then hit a defender and go in... etc...

Like real life, sometimes weird and freak goals happen and this is emulated (on purpose or not, im not sure) on PES. However, there are some points when the AI is a little stupid. Also, PES is a lot, lot harder!

See, I did have that happen in Fifa World Cup 06, and many other WTF moments where a ball would somehow go in, but since then in the regular Fifa games, it does feel more 'under control by the pc' than by me. I'm sure it was made by a diff studio. I also love the world stage. I need a demo dangit lol.

When you say harder, do you mean as far the pc is more skilled defensively/offensively? Or is it just harder in general to win? I don't mind if something is a 'good' hard. I just don't like games that are ridiculously hard just b/c the developers wanted it that way. Do you get what I'm saying, I hope?

Speaking of playing together...lol, no seriously, I thought that was really cool that you could play 10v10 with real players. I haven't tried it myself, but I thought it would be a lot of fun. I need to try that out with my Fifa 09. Does Pro Evo have this same option, or will it I should say, for Pro Evo 2010?

Manzi, do you not have a gamepad for the pc, or do you just prefer the futbol games on the console?

if you look at my PC specs you will see why I have migrated. Also the PlayStation controller is very comfortable in my hands for sports games.

Here is a quick article talking about some of the new stuff for PES 2010. It looks promising, but almost every comment below says "If they fix the online play." So yeah, I take it that it pretty much blew last game.

Okay, now that both demos are out, what do you think?

PES 2010 has the people running like chickens and the animations do feel like they need to be smoothed out a bit as you can tell when they're queued, but I will admit, there is that randomness feel about PES 2010. I've had a few WOW moments where it felt as though I was watching a real game, amazing moments, unpredictable. The graphics, at least on the PC, are slightly different than FIFA 10 and you could argue better or worse depending on your style or preference.

However, the gameplay is good. But, things do seem a bit unpolished. I may hold off just yet on buying FIFA 10 and wait for both of these to be out and read reviews as I didn't think I'd like PES 2010 at all, but it plays pretty well, I'll admit.

Any others here have experience playing the demos of both PES 2010 and FIFA 10?

I hope to try the PES 10 demo when it is out on ps3.

For FIFA 10 ive noticed major differences from 09 both good and bad, i do feel like i have more control over the ball i can pull off more spins and the players are a bit more aggressive on defense which is more real life. The graphics are somewhat odd though, "major" players are very detailed more so then 09, but other players look worse then they did in 09 because they are blurry, i looked and paused in replays and yes they are blurry, lampard for example looks great but imbravihabic or however you spell is name is just a blurry face that looks like him very odd.

The players also seem a bit more "thick" and rugged then they did before but that might also play into why the faces are blurry I think they did some major changes to the player models and textures to attempt to improve them.

As far as gameplay it is still great for me had a lot of close games and one today where i won 5-0 as Marselle vs Chicago
