Battlefield 3 and what it could mean for PC gaming as a whole

Battlefield 3 needs to remain exclusive to PC because it could potentially jump start PC gaming back to being very popular like it was a few years ago (not saying it isn't).

Many people have said they will upgrade there PC's to play this.

Battlefield 3 being PC only also means we won't have to suffer due to console limitations which is why Battlefield Bad Company should remain on consoles while we get the Battlefield 3, 4's, etc.

Battlefield being on PC means there are no limits and not having to suffer from consoles which HAVE limits.

I'm one of those who will definitely upgrade (read: completely replace) my PC for BF3.

my guess is it will be cross platform, no one is doing PC exclusives for shooters anymore, in 2005 it was smart because the graphics was no where near close for the PS2 or Xbox but now the PS3/360 and PC can all support the same graphical look easily. 2010 won't be much different.

You and me both, I built one strictly for 1942, then another for BF2, then another for FFOW(waste of money that was), Im waiting to build yet another one for BF3....

Consoles come no where near PC graphics are capable of today, and this game will not be cross platform as Battlefield 3 is going to push tech on PC.

Consoles are pretty much maxed out graphic wise.

Also, Battlefield 2 was a huge success on PC to justify BF3 being an exclusive for PC.

Battlefield Bad Company exist for a reason (Consoles)

EA won't risk anything by making this a PC exclusive. The consoles are getting their games and now we are getting ours. Besides, BF2 sold more than millions of copies in its first year more so than BF:BC sold on 2 consoles. That justifies a PC exclusive.

console version of this will kill it :rawr

we need 40 v 40, huge maps, tones of vehicles and weapons and amazing grahpics!

your crappy 360 cant do that, nor can your over rated ps3. If there gonna make console version, make PC version first, then tone it down for crap.

not to sound like a fanboy of something but....

The stalker series has been PC exclusive for last 2 games and the next release is still PC exclusive. so for the moment there is at least one company that Is making PC exclusive Shooters. (that being said, GSC acquired 360 production rights, so a consolified stalker may be coming )

Maybe this is going to be the Pep-up for PC gaming? PC gaming has recovered from slumps before as I have heard and hopefully Battlefield 3 is just what the doctor Prescribed

The Xbox 360 and the Wii truly are but the PS3 still has plenty of graphical power over a lot of computers today and can still push further in that department.

I hope to god that its not cross platform but we will have to see.

Re: Battlefield 3 and what it could mean for PC gaming as a whole

They wouldnt call it battlefield 3 if its gonna be cross platform. This is sequel to the old battlefield series BF1942, vietnam, BF2 and BF2142. There is no point in doing this. They would have to cut down playercount to 24. Plus there is no sp. It would be another BC2 with no sp. Therefore it makes no sence to port it onto console. This will be pc only game.

Its not just fanboy screaming or so, Its logic nothing else.

It has nothing to do with graphics for me. It's the fact that everything has to be dumbed down and simplified to work on consoles. You've played BFBC and seen the god-awful excuse for a squad system, yes? You've seen the utter lack of communication between players due to the limitations of having nothing but a headset, yes? Not to mention the lack of a server browser, which craps all over the foundations of multiplayer gaming for PC players who are accustomed to being able to choose their favorite server/map to play on. I specifically mention *map* because Bad Company pretends to let you choose what map you want to play, but I seem to always end up on End of the Line or Oasis no matter what I actually picked. Yay for choice!

One of my favorite things about playing Battlefield 2 is the fact that I can say "nice kill" to someone who jumps from the bushes and stabs me in the face, or "thanks" to the teammate who just saved me from dying under enemy fire. In Bad Company, you have two ways to experience the amazing communications capabilities of console games: Xbox Live, where 12 year olds will shout racial epithets at you for "stealing their kills"...or PSN, where nobody seems to actually wear their headset - they just set it right next to their TV so every game action is echoed back to you with a 2 second delay and analog radio fuzziness.

I enjoyed Bad Company immensely, and I'm definitely looking forward to Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 1943. But they're definitely not on the same level as Battlefield 2. I hope Battlefield 3 stays on that level too.

Okay, 20 edits later and this has turned into a rant about about Bad Company. I hope you still get my point though.

Providing it's a PC exclusive BF3 could well bring the PC back to the front of gaming, or bury it.

They do like a modern combat game for the consoles, but I think console gamers should be happy with ther BadCo. game. PUT PC GAMING BACK ON THE MAP!

I still believe it will be PC only, after all, the other battlefield games were created to cater to the console audience

even if it was multiplatform it would still be PC centric imo
