I dont know why scan is so harped over. Only the commander can see the people on the scan, so who cares ? He still has relay that info down to men on the field, which he does by using spotted, which he could do without the scan. Hell if anything the scan cuts down on blind spotting. And the way its setup in Bf2 is "realistic" if the guy is looking through a milsat, he would be able to see you from above, with the exception of those in buildings etc. It would be neat to have a Osprey I think they are called ? the radar planes flying around that the commander would need to man , like in project reality where he needs to actually get into his commander assets.

Yes, there should be commanders in BF3.

Yes and he should have a bigger role than in BF2 and even BF2142

What I don't like about commanders in BF2 is that they are ussualy a static unit, playing an RTS rather then an FPS.

Maybe make the UAV actually follow the commander, so the commander becomes this important unit to defend and keep alive. Take away the tactical screen all together and place the commander in the front lines, give him some goggles with laser pointers to designate supply drop areas and artillery drops.

UAV = Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, Having it follow the commander just wouldn't make sense nor work as they are usually placed within the thick of enemy strongholds.. If it's safe enough for the commander to be hanging around then there's no use for a UAV at his location.

Laser designated attack points would be alright I guess but the more time he's spending running around doing things the less time he's got to pay attention to the battle.

I don't mind the way the commanding system works as it is a whole different game within itself and once again adds to the diversity which is Battlefield.

I actually like the idea of having a commander and think its a brilliant feature. Nerfing the way the scan and UAV work could be a very good idea though. As in if certain heavilly camouflaged classes like Snipers or Maybe even Speacial forces dont move for a certain period of time they dont get picked up by either the UAV or Scan. Also if you're inside some kind of building i dont think the scan should pick you up.

UAV in bf2 isn't realistic anyway you can place it where ever you wish, it fly's way too low and it pop's up out of nowhere and causes your jet to explode.

UAV is unmanned, yes, but not uncontrolled. It still has to be flown via remote control. This would be the perfect job for the commander; instead of having the UAV be a timed device where he just clicks and forgets, then manifests another one 30 seconds later, he should be forced to actually fly it like a plane wherever it needs to go, but not have a timer so it will last until it gets shot down, then he has to wait for it to respawn just like every other vehicle. Of course, you'd have to limit the height otherwise you'd have them up in the stratosphere or you'd have commanders using it to jihad infantry and other things on the ground, but at least if it were controlled and actually had to fly to make it to its destination instead of being able to just right-click left-click and have it instantly appear anywhere on the map it would be more balanced.

If the commander has to fly the UAV it makes him a pilot, not a commander. Would be no different than a fighting commander now, which is totally worthless.

You have to understand, however, that not everyone enjoys the idea of being able to be spotted anytime at anywhere on the map regardless of what they're doing simply because the commander decided to right-click/left-click somewhere near them. It more or less vapourises any semblance of stealth in the game. Requiring that the commander actively participate in spotting with something that has a limited range or view would allow people to actually slip past the front lines undetected, since there wouldn't be a satscan that shows all enemies on the board as giant red dots, requiring the commander to just spam 'Enemy Spotted!' somewhere in your vicinity to uncover your position to the entire enemy team. Many are in favour of the commander having less control of the battlefield as it is.

With a manned UAV (remote controlled, not physically occupying the vehicle, of course), the commander would have to choose places for the UAV to go and if he wants to check a far corner of the map to see if there's someone there, he should fly the UAV over that direction. UAV and commander spotting is one of the things that made Wake 2007 such an unbalanced mess compared to Wake 1942.

So Keep the current system, but if the commander wants to commander spot you he has to be at maximum zoom level, and right click on you, and choose enemy spotted. This would eliminate spamming, the UAV is a deployable asset and I think its a pretty good balance between realism and functionality.

                              Fighting commanders are worthless.

solution: make enemy only audible to players only if the said enemy is close to the player.

for me honestly, it never bothered me though, the commander spot spam. i just ignore it and move on w/ my business.
