Yes the commander should be in BF3 , that's a better way than giving the arty to any player that jumps on the arty and allowing them to arty glitch like in BC-1.

It would be better to have no commander and no arty and no U.A.V altogether but I don't think DICE will do that.

      And NO KILL CAMS

there should be a commander, but I think his abilities should be re-evaluated somewhat

instead of just an artillery strike I think he should have 3 choices under a launch ordnance button or something

          mortar strike for anti infantry
          aerial bombing for vehicles
          artillery for a mix

but you only use one at a time, one would take longer to recharge as well etc

well if they want to be realistic, the commander these days usually aren't in the battlefield, and is usually at some central command post far away from the battlefield, no?

A server option to disable the commander?

I think it should be in there, with a few tweaks like mentioned earlier, it was something I never did much of in BF2 but it was nice to take a break from fighting on the frontline and as Alex said it's also Doritos (pringles and dip is a crime) time!

Don't use Battfield and realistic in the same sentance again :p

I wouldn't mind having a commander in BF3 with two conditions:

                  *No scan

*A statement in the ROE that allows players to kill commanders regardless of any server rules (like when the commander sits in the uncap on a no-attack-uncap server).

                    NO no NO

battles will do just fine without a commander like bf42 and bfV:salute:

Why not? Aren't kill cams bad because they reveal your position when you're sniping or whatever? That's the commander's job - right click, left click - oh wow there's a person there I never knew about, now my whole team sees him as a dot on their map.

Of course this is in the context of BF2/2142 commanders. If you want to remove his spotting abilities, then he just becomes the guy sitting on the arty gun from BF:BC.

I couldn't say whether the commander should be kept or not. What I can say is that I've witnessed too many games in bf2 where commanders are either idle or goofing around in vehicles and can't be voted off. Very frustrating. Especially when that single factor alone tips the balance of the game. One team gets all the flags and the round is over.

The way I see it is that I did like it when you DID have a rare good commander, he sent in supplies when you asked

Kill cam gives a much more precise locale of where you are and going to the people you kill making revenge a no brainer (judging by the footage we saw).

The commander system works both ways, sure they might spot me but my commander is usually spotting them aswell, however I would like to see the removal of the scan button. But arty, supplies, UAV, vehicle drop etc.. We still need that.

So yes this game needs a commander because as I said it adds to the diversity and atmosphere of the game, but it needs to be nerfed in the spotting region of things.

                              IMO.

Scan definitely needs to be gone or nerfed. Like not detecting people who aren't moving or prone.
