This game so needs a selector switch. I know it wasn't really a problem with the WWII games, but this is in the modern era where most guns have one. The G3 was a prime example of a gun that needed on in the last game.
This game needs a selector switch.

Re: This game needs a selector switch.
It would be nice in weapons like the M16, as well. Sometimes I would prefer single accurate shots as opposed to bursts at a distance where only one out of the three rounds will hit. -
Re: This game needs a selector switch.
The whole point of not having that switch is to have balance between the guns and make them unique, the focus isn't on realism. In Call of Duty, each gun has its defining characteristics - the P90 is the spray, "noob" gun, the AK47 is the dominant assault rifle, the m16 as a good long range rifle, and the g3 is used for its combination of power, accuracy, and semi-automatic capability - so you use a particular gun for a particular job, not one gun for everything. It's easy enough to single shot an M4 or AK, but adding a selector switch would completely eliminate the need for any other gun, and would consequently remove much of the existing (and necessary) balance.
Even as the game currently plays there is a clear, limited use of guns, because some are innately better than others (why else did the entire competitive community only use the AK47 and 74u for repeated seasons?). Adding a selector switch would remove the individuality and connotation that it had previously (M4 with single shot? No, you use the M16 if you want that accuracy, but therefore you give up your short range fights) and, in my opinion, would even further limit the use of other guns, because there would simply be no use for them. Granted, that is an exaggeration that 'nobody' would use them, but my point is simply that there would be a very limited use for other guns, and its nice to see a [balanced] variety (Please, IW, no more M4/MP5 vs AK47/AK74u atrocities!)
Sure, I can see why many would like it, and I understand the justification behind it, but I really don't see any reason for doing it - other than to appease those who want it. It would remove the defining characteristics of certain guns and throw off the balance that currently exists (you want long range, you go M16, you want short/med, you go M4/AK47) and I just don't see any reason for why those characteristics need to be removed. Perhaps I'm taking too critical of an approach on the topic as I have a predominantly competitive background where I crave balance and variety, but I still think my points are valid.Comment

Probably not. In a game like CoD1/2 maybe, but I think CoD4 (and most likely MW2) is/will be too arcadey to need a fire selector switch.Comment

Re: This game needs a selector switch.
Useless, the assault rifles remain accurate at long distances already.. There's no need for single shot, unlike bf2..
P.S. As for the G3 being fully auto...No.. Just no..Comment

Re: This game needs a selector switch.
I would like to see you able to switch the attachment on your gun.. Say the primary attachment you chose was a Red Dot Sight, as your Perk 1 you should be able to take either an ACOG Scope or a Silencer.Comment

Re: This game needs a selector switch.
The selector probably wont happen as, like others have said, its going to change the balance of the weapons. Yes, its not realistic, but its not total realism the CoD folks are going for, but gameplay and balance.
As for Opfor weapons for Opfor and US weapons for US; unless the put in that new oldschool setup we all talk about, that is not going to happen either.
When the first CoDs did that (if they did it) wasn't there team stacking to get the "better" weapons?

Re: This game needs a selector switch.
So instead of selector switch we have folks that put their fire buttons on the mouse wheel and have super accurate burst fire G3s and pistols. Boys, its been broken long before this argument. I would like the choice, even if it means being able to set the M14 to full out, would force them to use the M1A instead for the sniper rifle. I remember when I unlocked the G3 for the first time and stood that like an idiot after I pressed the mouse button and only one round came out and I got mowed down by full auto fire. I don't need it for realism, just the way I like to use the guns, single for range full auto for medium to close. Would make the MP5 a whole lot happier camper versus being sniped by scorpions from range.Comment

Re: This game needs a selector switch.
The exploitation of the scroll wheel was a mistake that should have been fixed, but the damage that the g3 caused because of it (along with the deagle) was tremendous, and only goes to further my point that adding a selector switch would only lead to terrible imbalances. The fact that people have found ways to use a gun in an unintended way doesn't, and should never, justify the modification of other weapons. Also, while on that topic, the people who have learned to use the automatics effectively in single shot should be rewarded for that skill - their time and effort has helped them to be better than the average player. Giving players that ability from the start would, and I continue to repeat myself, imbalance the game!Originally posted by RangerXMLSo instead of selector switch we have folks that put their fire buttons on the mouse wheel and have super accurate burst fire G3s and pistols. As rude as it sounds, the truth is that the way you would like to use the guns doesn't matter. I'd love for AK47 to have absolutely no recoil and be 1 hit kill, but that - despite the extremeness of the example - would only be a severe imbalance. If IW gave everybody what they wanted - such as the selector switch - the game would simply not be fun. What people have to remember is that the fun comes with learning to use guns and tactics that you had never previously considered, not by being handed your dream weapon with no effort.
About your scorpion point, rather than making all the guns amazing to combat the imbalance, they should focus more on improving the existing balance and repairing the current imbalances. Instead of "balancing" the game by making the mp5 super accurate, the objective should be to tone down the scorpion. My point is, the developer should make the guns unique - and it should be that uniqueness that draws people to the gun, not its overpowering abilities.Comment

Re: This game needs a selector switch.
I'm kinda torn on this one.
On the one hand, Defekt makes a good point about how the current system makes the different weapons unique.
On the other, I think no matter how they work on balancing them, if they keep using authentic weapon characteristics, then some are always going to be inferior to others, and not used as much.
If I had a vote, I think I would want the selector switch in. I think it would allow for a bit more versatility overall.Comment

If you wanted versatility then you would use a different gun. I think thats the point we're trying to make.Originally posted by WhiskeyI'm kinda torn on this one.
