well if it's the same thing as in other games like the cod series, unreal series, source games, etc I don't see what the problem is for the BF series. I've never heard anyone complain about other people playing in widescreen. Like evant said, there's way more things in BF2 that give more of an unfair advantage than simple real widescreen support.

In CoD4 I hate the default FoV which is like 60 or something so I changed it to 80. I can see more on my screen now. Is that supposed to give me an advantage?

It is DICE, they don't care what you want :)

Yes, changing FOV does give you advantage but bigger is not always better (at least not in other games). Besides, you can set FOV limits that players are allowed to use in the server anticheat software. That is how it works for UT2k4 at least :)

As for PB, it is allowed according to the author:
I have been communicating with EA and EvenBalance over the use of this program. I've gotten responses from both that say this program is allowed on PunkBuster-enabled servers with Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142. It's not any kind of official announcement and the use of it is subject to change. In other words, this program is OK to use for now, but understand that you use this at your own risk. If anything changes regarding its usage, I will update here.
And I have never been kicked because of this

Widescreen fixer version 1.32 is the only one 100%, absolutely allowed, approved directly by punkbuster, safe to use version. Not to say other versions won't work safely, this is just tested. When I was in BF2C the admins talked directly with PB on top of them already testing it just to make sure it's ok to use.

        I didn't make those screenshots.. those are in 2142.. I hate 2142.

        It's right on their site:

So, yes. Using the shortcut stretches the horizontal field of view, while cropping some off the top and bottom... while missing what most people see past your peripheral view.

Edit: just a tip.. I don't really use this too much for infantry.. because it has this awkward lag every once in a while where it has a slow reaction to zooming in or out of iron sights.

The only time I turn it on is when I am in an attack chopper, or flying a jet. I got it after I got my 22" for dogfighting. There is a lot you miss out on when you lose that little bit off the top when you are chasing a jet.
