This Blue Pearl map looks kind of interesting. Regardless, it's a new map and that's generally never a bad thing. Too bad it has to be nerfed for *** systems, but I guess that's what you have to do when you make PC games these days.

Those bridges look like cool choke points.

Oh really? From the posting:

"That map, which we have called Operation Blue Pearl, will appear in the upcoming Battlefield 2 Update 1.50 and Battlefield 2142 Update 1.51."

From the DICE interview:

"A new map will be released with the Battlefield 2 1.5 patch. Also, the same map (albeit in a slightly different context) will be released for Battlefield 2142 in the coming 1.51 patch. Although DICE currently is unable to release the name of the map, (the old name was recently leaked but has been changed) I was allowed to spend 30 minutes playing and taking screenshots of both the BF2 and 2142 versions."

"In the 2142 version of the map the water will (obviously) be frozen, making the high amount of vehicles necessary to navigate the great distance between the European Union uncap and the Pan Asian Coalition's flags.

The map is designed to be intense but still huge, much like Karkand but in a Chinese setting. As the BF2 1.5 patch beta won’t be out until early next year and the 2142 1.51 patch will arrive after that, we still have a little bit of waiting to do. Having seen the new maps, however, I know it’ll be worth the extra time to put on the finishing touches."

I got the feeling a couple of months back that the new update was just around the corner, ...but then there were some vague forum mutterings about some sort of security leak which may or may not have been either true or relevant... ...and then silence.

2142 certainly needs something to kick-start it back into action right now. Servers are a bit on the quiet side compared to a few months back.

I expect vehicle spam more than anything else... big map, lots of vehicles... won't be much room for rocket or ganz spam with that many APC mortars available.

Could be fun... dunno, reserving opinion until I get to play it, will find out what sort of spam I'm dealing with when that time comes

True that, although with the deluxe version being $20 and the game being 3 years old, I do see a lot of new people on so I agree it might be good, just wondering what will break.

If it's designed as an infantry map in BF2 and it's going to be the same size as the BF2 variant, it's a HUGE mistake to put that many vehicles in it. Two tanks and two FAVs would be plenty. If it's going to be a huge map, then it would probably have aircraft too, but since they say it's essentially going to be Karkand with the PLA, that means infantry. Can't see why they'd put so many vehicles in an infantry map, since the only people who would really enjoy it would be people who like killing infantry in vehicles, and since few infantry players like vehicles at all they'd most likely run the map IO anyway. :hmm:

Guess we'll have to wait and see.
