If you have issues, get Daniel K's drivers.

That's why I hate Creative, even though they have good hardware, there are always issues with their drivers. They are so slow to update them, too.

excuse me but am i the only one who thinks x-fi is piece of crap, especially on vista and especially with BF games? i get the static/crackling noise if i try to use X-fi mode on BF2/2142 so i have to use hardware mode, which defeats the point of owning a x-fi card so i can play on x-fi mode.

not to crap on creative, since these problems are exclusive to BF games but i'm just sayin.

No, because it worked for me fine. Drivers and all.

Your card is probably dying or you are getting EM interference from somewhere (I used to get it)

no, it's a known issue on many computers actually. creative forums have massive threads about the BF and X-fi issue.

but outside of x-fi mode on BF games, i do like the card. switching modes all the time is kind of a b1tch though i usually leave it on game mode.

Never had any probs on XP with Game mode, have read loads of problems with Vista users with new games. Creative are a lot better than they used to be. Think atleast one alternative is worth looking at, faster with driver updates\fixes?

I only get crackling during map loading. I have no idea why. It doesn't happen at all during gameplay.

My XFi XtremeMusic works flawlessly in Windows 7 with the latest DK Support pack 2.0.

...on a side note I can even play online now and PB doesn't kick me out for unknown windows API.

                          Re: Show Your Stuff!!

Yeah. I played for a few days with no PB kicks at all.

Although I don't exactly know how I accomplished it.

With the new RC I installed 2142, updated PB etc and managed to play for about 30mins with no kicks. I then came here and posted that it had all been fixed. I then played again and got the typical unknown windows API kick so came back and deleted my thread.

However, I followed a tutorial online by someone called mdttb that said you should install everything in windows XP service pack 3 compatability mode. Tried it got kicked then sent an angry letter to PB then came back and managed to play consistently for a few days with absolutely no PB problems. So in summary, I don't know why my PB kicks went away.

Maybe it was the compatability mode or the PB letter or an update or something else but it is possible. Look at www.sevenforums.com for more info.

don't get your hopes up. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. pb doesn't officially support it, nor will they so long as it's in beta status. it may or may not. believe me, if it was supported, i'd have already switched.

I understand your concerns. Ever since the release of the pre-beta there have been people posting online that you can get the game to work by running the 2142.exe in admin mode or changing registry keys for pnkbsrta.dll etc etc etc. These usually mean you piss about for half a morning only to get kicked the instant you try and play online. Gawd knows how many times I have installed and re-installed and fekked about with this setting and that to no avail.

I can promise you that my game worked on Windows 7 RC1 online on whatever server I tried and I did not get kicked over the course of say 4-5 days (have uninstalled since). I would say however that I had been trying other things previous to trying the windows XP sp3 trick. Therefore I can't say what was the specific or combination of things I did that got rid of the kicks so if you do wan't to move to Win 7 know that online play is possible but there may be some trial and error involved.

I have had no problems with Windows 7 and punkbuster in 2+ weeks. BF2142, BF2, CoD4, Crysis Wars, Quake Live - they all use punkbuster and I've had no issues.

However, you need to make sure that you run the program as administrator all the time. Starting the game with autorun from the CD is going to get you kicked, for example. PB can be a bit grumpy when it wants to update itself but pbsetup fixes that easily.

Some people bump into problems no matter what they do though so if you want to be 100% sure to be able to play 2142 or any other PB game, don't install Windows 7 just yet.
