I think I must have one of the worst rigs on here. But it still hasn't stopped me pwning.

I find it funny when I can outscore people with top range rigs.

One day when I got the cash, I will build my own rig. Cant imagine how much more pwning I will be doing with a sweeter rig... *salivates*

yeah i thought the same thing but then realized that it really only helps on high population maps.

the maps that you like to play on with your bad computer (small poulation campG) wont help you out too much. sorry to burst your bubble but i've been there, done that.

It will I think. I dont get sufficient fps at the moment and hit recognition is dodgey sometimes.

A while back I upgraded the ram and got a slightly better graphics card and it made a world of difference in my game. My rig is still bottlenecking me, therefore if I have a sweet rig my gaming will improve too.

What are your specs? My system is 2 - 3 years old and can max 2142 easily.

I'll bet your one of those people that run with no shadows, low textures etc - a cheat basically

Lol, I rofled at that. Largely because it goes either way. I was playing a camp gib match the other day with no shadows (for central camp of course). Of course, makes visibility shedloads easier. Then I cast my mind back to a clan match on verdun where I played with everything on and maxxed... and laughed as I remembered that on no less than 3 separate occasions I was able to get the drop on an unsuspecting enemy as I saw his shadow come round the corner first before he did.

Both are as good or as bad as each other :) Just in different circumstances.

Back on topic, after a PC fail (harddrive then GFX card died in a week) - replaced with 2*1.5tb seagates and a 4870x2 and now it's a case of FEEL MY FRAMERATE Even fraps has no lag... atm anyway

3gb ram
256mb 8600 GTS



I used to have textures and stuff on med-high, but have put them all on low now for extra fps. If I put shawows and lighting on higher than low I always get CTD's.

So now I have everything on low, except geometry and 100% distance view.

I cant play on servers with more than 32 players really, it becomes too laggy.

You should have a look on eBay. You could probably sell your 8600 for £10 - then buy a 9600GT for around £40 if you are lucky.

The 9600 is more than enough for 2142.

I would have to upgrade my PSU for that card. But it is my processor that is bottlenecking me. So I think it's not worth upgrading. Gonna just save up and build a rig at some point.

keep in mind that this game was made to run on single core cpus in the first place

i had

2.6Ghz PD 805
3GB ram
7900gs

10-30fps on 60 player servers
30-60fps on 32 or less
"dodgy" hit reg sometimes but then that also depends on the server you know

your hit reg and overall "gaming" will improve alot on 60 player servers. you will be entranced by the buttery smooth 100+ frames per second. you will be "better" at hip spraying in close quarters and stuff like that.

but then the whole thing is as the number of people on a server decrease so does the networking load on your cpu. therefore the advantage diminishes

i dont just blow a bunch of smoke when im talking about this stuff i've really been there, done the homework, seen the difference myself.

but i should add its definitely worth the money to get a good computer because you WILL enjoy the game more because it will allow you to play on whatever server you want and do whatever you want, and then with a bad computer you will always be wondering exactly how much better you would be able to play

An upgraded PC is not always better, but in all fairness 90% of the time it is

Before my last upgrade i was running XP with 2GB RAM, so i installed Windows Vista 64 and 6GB RAM and i get half the FPS lol. I mean i have 3x the RAM yet half the FPS, make sense of that one :laugh:

ok so i purchased some sennheiser pc350's yesterday on amazon



but then i was thinking its very very likely that these will not be used to thier proper potential with RealTek onboard audio with my motherboard so i was considering purchasing a fairly decent soundcard to go with it. Idk about you but when i go to buy parts for my pc i try to go higher end because they will see lots of use. i mean i dont want to be a sucka but then i dont want to short change myself either

someone on another site was suggesting this Azune Forte card. yes i know its like $150 on top of the $150 headphones but before this i went out and bought a ''26 monitor for $300 that returned because it had some poop problems.

i was just curious about the issue of bf2142 and having the highest sound quality im assuming that in order to have super high quality sound all you need is an X-fi card...? its just ive seen some people that had problems with this..

As much as we love to hate 'em, I don't think you can go wrong with Creative. They're like the Microsoft of sound cards, and that's probably for a reason. The Xtreme Gamer card is half as much as the Fatal1ty version, but looks like it has pretty much the same features. I would go with that one. I have a Creative Xfi, and it is a noticeable difference to me in the sound. IMO, sound is more important than any visuals in the game and can give you a clear advantage over other players.

The Xtreme Gamer card is amazing if you are running on xp since the drivers are made for it, if you run on vista like me most of the features like the equalizer and such dont even work.
