I played it on the playstation, disliked having tanks that were ALWAYS in between the stupidest buildings. I also disliked the 3rd person. Even with the analogue stick, the plane wouldn't roll.
Eg. you try to barrel roll, so you flick the stick and hold it. No roll, just a 90% banked turn. MORE MANEUVERABLE MODE MY A** :p
Although doing backflips to get behind the guy on your tail is ace
You can barrel roll if you have assistance on... But with it off(i think it would sound better if they would call it the "dogfight" mode) the plane does that banked turn...
I think you have to choose between normal or expert mode before you start the mission. It's really dumbed down, apparently in assisted mode you fly through a series of checkpoints to get a lock on.

Yes, in the assistance mode on, you'll get the gates(with PS3 they don't appear until you press square, im not sure if they appear automatically on the PC version, because i haven't downloaded it yet). They are suppose to line you up with the enemy fighter/ground target. But you don't need to fly through them if you don't want.
I personally didn't fly through those things at all. I had no trouble getting a lock on...
And on the PS3 version, you can switch the assistance off by double tapping either L2 or R2.

ugh to be honest they should let you First person in assist off mode and also allow more maneuverability in ON assist mode just doesn't feel right even with a joystick BF2 Jets> This >.<
The graphics is outstanding! Photorealistic landscape is really difficult to find in other flight simulations one of these days. I truly love the buildings and the map, afterall eye-candy is one of the very elements of a flight simulation.
If I really want to go for a hardcore flight simulation, DCS Black Shark is a must to get, but I iwll have to wait until March 24!
I will get HAWX since I do not have ACE COMBAT 6 which I love genuinely but never feel like buying a PS2.

I agree there are not too many combat flight sims out there especially for the PC so you gotta take advantage of the ones that come around and not be too judgmental.
