I don't care if they are made for consoles too, as long as the game itself does not suffer because of it.

If you can make a game that is awesome on consoles as well as PC bring it on, by all means.

What bothers me, and i feel this should be the real question, is the fact that none of the BF announced so far have the very thing that made BF what it is.

I can't tell you what the thing is, but i can tell you what it is not.
It is not unlimited ammo, it is not 24 player cap, it is not regenerating health, it is not individual play, etc...

I don't mind any of the games they announced, hell i even thing BF:BC2 will be very fun.
But BC2, BF:H or BF 2143 are not proper Battlefield games.

I think people need to stop making such a big stink about the video game industry changing and deal with it. The issue of PC games being "consolized" is VERY exaggerated, and the fact is, honestly what huge gameplay differences would there be if the latest BF games were not being made for consoles also? I hear constantly on these boards - "Oh damn you Dice... consolizerating our gamez!" But no one even says what is being consoled!

If any video game developer or publisher is going to make money - they are going to make a game for the Xbox 360, the Wii, or the PS3, its just a fact. I can name 30 kids who have Xboxes that I know from my class alone, and met about 12 PC gamers ever since I started playing - the evidence is there, and its obvious.

It's time to take a step back, chill out - and realize that our "changed" games are totally fine.
ok i'll use a very relevant example here. have you played mirror's edge for PC? in the tutorial, they tell you to press certain xbox controller buttons trying to teach you how to do moves. the fact DICE didn't take time to change that to reflect your PC setup is very disheartening to me and is an example of what "consolized" means on PC.

THAT, is a pretty large blunder, I'll agree. That's either a result of very shoddy testing, or a Production decision not to bother fixing it. Stuff like this does happen, regrettably, but most of the time things like this are properly changed for PC.

it's a result of a straight port job when it came to the PC version.

do i expect it for the future BF games? no. will i be surprised if it happens? no.

Mirrors edge is a console game, and needs to be played on a console..

Its like a modern day atari 2600 game.. Easy to play and fast paced.
But rewards for playing it really well..

Plus to play it well you need the analogue movement, I cant imagine how the flow is effected in a negative way trying to play it with keyboard controls.

no, in fact i finished the game with my keyboard/mouse and it was pretty easy for the most part.

i wonder if it means the upcoming games have PC gamepad support.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new DICE games would have gamepad support... more people than you might think play FPS games with a gamepad on PC

Mirrors Edge is infinitely better on the PC, but they were a bit lazy with some details when they ported it over

lol i guess he never played mirror's edge.

yeah gamepad support is almost a no brainer since the xbox versions will be developed for gamepad-only to begin with which the PC version will come from.

No I havent played ME on the PC, What would be the point in that.

If the game is a direct port as im hearing, How can it be better on the PC?
Thats some holed @$$ logic dude.

So Faith speeds up the longer you hold down W, How do you sneak or just walk? Every second of the game isnt about moving as fast as possible. sometimes slowing down so you can analyze the space infront of you without stopping keeps the flow of the game up.

I guess the concept of moving at more than one rate of speed is still lost to the PC only guys.

A Gamepad on a PC in a game not coded for Analog movement wouldnt automaticly give you analog movement.. take BF2 as an example.

Most people are so thumb heavy they cant finness the controls anyway.
Some people might not even know the difference.

i know what you're saying but i didn't feel like sneak/walking was a crucial part of the game. in fact i don't think i really used it.

xbox controllers are on PC as well, i'm sure it's coded for analog movement.

Mirror's edge is just one big jumping puzzle. It's not a particularly complex game.

It's better on PC because it's on PC, if you know what I mean. Mouse and keyboard beats controller everyday, but it depends what you're used with.

It's pretty much a direct port but that doesn't mean it's worse on PC. It's well optimized and the controls are very good.

Re: Do you believe DICE's statement that they're not going casual/console on us?

I think Dice have to look at the console market as the future of gaming for several reasons.
                              1. The Xbox and PS3 markets combined are a massive potential source of money and while Battlefield was originally a PC game they would be crazy to ignore such a massive market. Look at how popular COD has become because of the console.
                              2. PC's usually require upgrades to play new games (Say over a 5 year period) While an Xbox or PS3 will be able play games without the need for new graphics cards, more RAM, etc. This can be expensive for the PC user and probably puts some people off PC gaming (The reason I bought a PS3 was because it was just too expensive to keep upgrading my pc for gaming)
                              3. Advertising - There seems to be a lot more advertising for consoles and their games than there is for PC Gaming. Especially on TV (Well here in the UK anyway) This will no doubt generate even more revenue for consoles.
                              4. Piracy - I think the fear of piracy has put off some developers making PC games. Look at what happened with the PC version of Bioshock and the crazy copy protection. You could install the game twice and then you had to contact the developers/publishers so they could let you install the game again. How ridiculous is that?!?!?! It also installed software on your PC without telling you and didn't remove it when you uninstalled the game. Isn't that Illegal? I'd much rather have a console game that doesn't need to deal with such crazy copy protection than buy another pc game like that.

While I agree that Battlefield is a much better game on the PC I think the reason DICE has been so keen to produce console games is because they are bigger sources of revenue for them. A business has to make money to survive and the more money DICE/EA make the more chance we'll get another BF game.

Like someone mentioned before if they can make the console version of battlefield equal (In gameplay and game features rather than graphics) to the PC version then we'll all be happy. I can't see BF3 for PC coming anytime soon so we just have to hope that the improvements to BC2 will be a big step towards being closer to the PC versions of Battlefield.

Re: Do you believe DICE's statement that they're not going casual/console on us?

Piracy and 3rd party software are 2 very big reasons to dev for a dedicated gaming machine.

Mouse and keyboard do not make games "better".
It might make you better at playing it because thats what your used to now.
Anyone that tells you playing a game with a mouse and keyboard was natural when they first started PC gaming is full of it.

My aim is pretty fast and accurate with a gamepad after months of practice.

I just faced the fact that theres no reason to spin in circles playing a shooter.

I could understand the arguments for PC over a console before the 360.

VOIP, IM, Clan matches, Leaderboards just to name a few, all made PC gaming years ahead.

                                Not anymore

If Microsoft would open up the dedicated server issue.
Control options are all the PC only freaks have left to cling to.
