DICE, Your confusing the hell out of me.

Battlefield: Heroes- WW2, Team Fortress 2 knockoff. Free to play, download only.

Battlefield: 1943- WW2, revamped 1942 with new GFX engine, 24-player max online, apparently download only.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2- Modern combat, improvement over original console version and coming to PC as well, 24-player max is probably the max if it's going to consoles and ported over to PC.

What the hell? DICE is behaving like M$, release three different flavors of Battlefield games. What kind of quality can we expect if they are working on three major titles at once?

Did DICE forget that BF2 was their most successful game ever? Why have they abandoned BF3? That would have been a sure hit. Now we have THREE new Battlefield games coming out and no one knows if they will even be close to what BF2 was like in quality/gameplay/fun.

What's even more surprising is that Joint Operations was lauched in 2004 with the ablity to have up to 150 players on server.

    This is just diaspointing.

I loved that game, I am now awaiting Delta Force: Angel Falls which is supposed to support up to 200-players.

If DF:AF is good, it might just be the BF3 of 2009.

I wouldn't totally blame this on DICE, look at who their overlords are, EA. EA is interested in one thing, and one thing only, maximizing quarterly revenues. What's the best way to maximize quarterly revenues:

        1) Have large development teams working on award-winning, state of the art titles that may take 2-3 years to release?

        or?

        2) Fracture all of the development teams into groups who are instructed to develop as many titles as they possibly can per year?

It's pretty clear that EA has mandated so many releases from DICE that DICE has no way of perfecting it's flagship titles.

Proof of this for me is 1942, DICE was relatively unknown at that time, and EA had not acquired them yet (they published 1942, but they did not acquire DICE until 2004/2005). As soon as EA got their hands to the core of DICE, we started seeing countless titles, expansion packs, and booster packs that amounted to mass mediocrity. Sure it's been making EA money, but look at how damaged DICE's reputation has become. DICE was admired for it's attention to detail and execution of BF1942 and even BF2.

        My two cents anyway.

Here is my personal view of it:
The population of gamers in the world are very different. The 3 different BF games will surely have different appeal to these different gamers. Even what mood you are in on a certain day of the week will often change the type of game you want to play. I believe that Battlefield has a lot to offer to a wider audience than that of the typical BF2/BF2142 player population alone. I also know that a lot of you will enjoy all 3 games - just like me.

DICE has a lot more employees now than it had when developing one single game at a time. This means that we are able to make more games, and still deliver strong quality games with the entertainment value that has kept people playing the Battlefield series for so many years.

Well, I guess that this confirms no BF3.

It just does not compute. BF2 was/is hugely successful, if DICE were to make BF3 they would make tons of money.

you don't get it? BF franchise has been established by hardcore PC gamers, but they realize there are more # of casual gamers than hardcore gamers so they are trying to go where the money is basically. PC hardcore has been done, they want to make it big across 2 different consoles as well as the casual PC gamers. this is no different than many game makers leaving the PC gaming scene for consoles. it lets you churn out more games and make more money. as successful as BF2 was, it is still being played without a true successor while on the console side, Bad Company was out just last year is already having a sequel. why wouldn't you want to make more money? from their point of view, it could even be that PC gamers should be thankful that PC is getting anything at all.

in other words, be prepared to be consolized, the PC BF gamers.

I'm sorry, but me and legions of other PC users will say that the PC is the best and most versatile gaming platform. There is no way in hell that us PC gamers will be, as you put it, "consolized"

Not to sound like a tosser, but while I'm definitely seeing the 'more games' portion, I'm having quite a bit of difficulty seeing the 'strong quality' part. Not to knock any of the hard work you've undoubtedly done with BF1943, but 3 maps? 24 players only? 3 kits, all of which can destroy vehicles? Unlimited ammo? Regenerating health? Exactly which Battlefield fanbase requested this?

it's obvious who they're catering to when it's 3 games for the console/casual gamers (BC2, Heroes, 1943) while 0 title for hardcore pc.

the days of PC exclusives from DICE are over....face it.......we are doomed to multiplatform releases from now on and there isnt a thing we can do about it.

im not trying to knock anyone over there because i put the blame solely on EA but they couldn't even get out a beta patch when it was promised........let alone a free to play MOD that was supposed to be released 8 months ago.........EA is putting way to much on their plate to give any one thing enough attention.

                              ...

BF1943 wasn't anything that the hardcore PC BF gamer wanted, well duh. It's not even directed at that type of player.

People are being way too harsh at DICE when we haven't got all the info yet. People assume BF1943 is a copy of BFH on the frostbite engine. Everyone assume that BC2 for PC will be a watered down console port. Everyone assumes that DICE and EA haven't thought this through.

OMG my favourite developer has started to make games for another type of audience? OH NOES!

I would like to hear what DICE have to say about the PC version of BC2 though, and it better be good
