I also heard that games shouldn't go backwards in graphics unless it offers something revolutionary, and new.

Some please do a comparison for the shotguns and MP44. MP44 is probably the most ridiculous looking gun in WaW, just plain horrible.

And CoD2 DOES look better, I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed this.

I agree with Tomeis, because I can't see any logic behind defending the poor textures - it just boggles my mind. CoD2 was released years ago, not like a few months ago, but years. Even if their main focus wasn't on improving graphics, they should, by today's standards and with the improvements in tools/technology, have improved over CoD2! Hell, even without comparing them to CoD2, I still view them as extremely bland and poorly made. I don't focus on the textures (er, didn't) but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be well made.

As long as the images don't look like crap, who cares.
If you wanna have an erection over Graphics, go play Crysis.

There's still no justification for texture quality being a downgrade from 3 years ago.

              CoD:WW ('08) < CoD2 ('05) < CoD4 ('07)
Doesn't that seem kind of messed up?

CO-OP should have been implemented years ago, since the single player has never been a strong point for COD.

                Friends list

Zombie, especially now with mod maps, brilliant and a great way to mix up game experience

Sound occlusion, which COULD have been done in COD4. they had similar sound effects in Rainbow six: raven shield, and BF2. COD 4 skipped this for LOUDNESS I guess, but now that I'm playing more COD5, the realistic sound variables make it a more immersive experience.

better lighting, smoke and of course a flame thrower that dosen't destroy performance.

I think all that fulfills your qualification for revolutionary, or atleast new.

Yeah but, come on, textures? Seriously? Who's performance gets affected by textures these days? I'm thinking people on a 7600 or lower. I only have a 9600GT and an X2 4000+ 2.1ghz and I get no change in FPS in Crysis (and every other game) when I put textures on the highest and anisotropic filtering on the highest (16x) versus textures on lowest and 0 AF. I could understand some power hungry graphic settings might need to be turned down for added features, but certainly not textures.

And remember, we're playing on the PC so we're able to change the graphic settings however we please, which those people on a 7600 or lower could do. So why limit everyone?

I don't want to be drawn into an argument here.

They have implemented water physics. And grass physics. They must have deliberately made the textures poor, expecting that there would be people running around with flamethrowers, and setting the map alight.

Water physics would take a HUGE hit on performance, grass may not take as much of a hit as water physics, but it would also impact performance slightly.

Not to mention, textures use up VRAM. When the map is on fire, and there are waves splashing against the shore, you don't want to use up your whole page file. You also have to find a way to handle 16+ players, and physics for general gameplay too.

The textures in the MP44 pic do look bad. But they look over sharpened too. I guess, that was a mistake in some textures.

But the thing is, the textures do look like crap. And I highly doubt your statement - while I don't care about graphics being amazing, I do expect that they will have improved from the last game, even a little bit. I'd much rather (and actually do) play CoD2 over CoD:WaW in terms of gameplay and graphics - the only thing WaW adds to the equation is an improved engine and more customization.

If you're fine paying $50 for a downgrade in graphics, that's your choice - but I, and many others, see it as extremely lazy and basically rude to the customers.

I think the graphics look good. But you also need to remember not everything is going to be shiney. Because as you've noticed most of the COD:WaW maps are in the late afternoon or early morning. I can only think of Castle that is in the middle of the day and well lit up. You can't have shiney sparkeling FPS eating graphics all the time.

Sure the graphics are a little less sophisticated, but that's not a very good reason to bash the game and say you want your money back and all.

                          COD2 vs COD5

The graphics might be better in COD2, but you get better gameplay in COD5, more customizeablility (<- Spelling?), better maps (IMO), more feutures (bipods, flamethrowers, better perks), COOP, Zombie, Deathcards.

You can't say COD2 is better just because the graphics are better, when COD5 has so many more things.

Yes, gameplay may be better, but a current game should look a lot better than one that was released a few years ago. Gameplay > graphics, but having such a big game like this step backwards in graphics (especially compared to the same series) is retarded.
