Gun shots behind you sound too faint

Anyone else notice that with surround sound speakers the gun shots to your rear sound a bit too faint... usually im thinking the enemy is like a quart mile away then i turn around and hes 2 inches behind me blasting away....

the surround sound is deff working because i hear artillery strikes perfect.

anyone else hear this problem? or is it just my setup?

I had a problem with all sounds being too quiet. I upgraded my sound driver and installed the software for it and its much better. You will probably need to do the same.

As installing new drivers may help, i wouldnt think it would that much. I read the developers commenting on the sounds, in reply to players saying, "wtf is wrong with the sound? everything is very faint, and gunshots dont sound right".

Turns out in Cod:WaW they decided to try out "Sound Occlusion". From what i gathered, this new introduction was a stab at making sounds more realistic. For example, you are in a room, someone 2 rooms away is firing a weapon, it would actually sound like there was someone 2 rooms away from you firing a weapon. Yet, as it turns out, you cant really hear jack. Like you said, someone is right behind you firing away, yet it sounds like they are 20-30 feet away.

There is a way to alter your files, to fix the sounds. I apologize i dont have the link on hand, but it seemed a pain anyways. We buy the games to play them, not fix what should have been set right before release ourselves.

Super for them trying something new for our benefit, thats cool. Yet it doesnt work, so hopefully they will patch it asap, and we can continue on playing, loud and proud.

This kinda makes me laugh in game, i was playing S&D, walking next to a team mate. He is firing his Thompson, and walking in the grass. His footsteps in the grass were very loud and clear, even louder than the firearm that he was wielding and firing as he walked. LOL!

So in the link, thanks unnamed, it says try to raise the SFX level, and lower everything else, it seems to help, ill try it myself, and post back later.

I guess my creative titanium must be doing something right, cause there is "Sound Occlusion" going on, but it sounds proper to me, actually alot of times it gets very loud in the thick of it. and all my levels are the same. using 5.1 logitech Z-5500

What kinds of sound cards are you people using?

Anyone notice how load the sound of you pulling the pin from a nade is out of your rear speakers? That through me for a loop.

Using a Creative X-Fi Platinum Sound card with a Logitech Z-5300e 5.1 surround sound system (THX), but the guns in general are quiet.

Adjusted my levels as well, didnt help really.

I use on board Realtek HD audio.

I suppose one of these days ill break down and invest in a sound card. i never really saw the point, i always thought sound is sound, and never could justify spending 100$ on a "sound card". Always thoughts the graphics was where it was at. We'll see...

im using an auzentech xplosion however i dont have all m speakers with me atm (im at uni + i have a sony amp connectec to my soundcard via optical, then leading to tannoy speakers ) Another possible reason i could think that you cant hear things properly relating to the sound occlusion, is if they included an artificial version of the cocktail party effect. This is where our brain automatically increases the volume of the person we want to listen too in a busy enviroment so in game our hearing would have to be directed wherever we are looking. Probabl not the reason but i thought i woudl throw it in thre anyway!

I use an X-Fi Fatal1ty with a Logitech headset. Turning off occlusion and attenuation made everything sound a lot better.

How many speakers do you have? You have 5.1, or the option of 7.1?
