Playing the guessing game is a bit dangerous. All it really tends to do is set up false expectations and disappointments.

There is always a possibility of Monday, but usually stuff like this is released in the latter half of the week (eg. Thur/Fri), so that people can get set up and excited about playing on the weekend.

I just read your posts w/JD, Whiskey, in http://www.callofduty.com/board/view...p?f=29&t=32594. God damn he's being stubborn as hell. I want him to find me 1 person that would rather have a locked-in name like BF2 versus what you are suggesting (like Xfire).

Yeah, I think he just might be missing the idea that, it's not that we want change-able names with no friends-features, it's that we think we should be able to have both. And that we don't care if people change their names, because we won't get confused. I think he just may have missed the point, thinking that I was suggesting we wanted an XFire-style system for names and that we didn't care about all the work they had put into the friends-system.

We'll see how it goes. If I get another opportunity I might take another stab at trying to get the point across. Maybe I'm missing something, dunno...but I just don't agree with Treyarch thinking that us being confused by changed display names would be a big deal, since XFire does that all the time.

                  1. Close range only. (I realize "close" is arbitrary - so consider "close" range SMG type distances).
                  2. You had Stopping Power.

Please keep in mind that there is just as much concern about them being over-powered as their is about them being under-powered.

I'm happy to engage in a well constructed dialog on this topic; but I won't pander to name-calling, tossed insults, or veiled threats. Many, but not all, of the replies to my last post on this topic were reasonably disingenuous.

A genuine dialog about the Pros and Cons is far more interesting to me than the alternative.

When non-scoped, you don't have the disadvantage of not being able to see the corners, but then again you are not zoomed-in. You can, however, track people fairly well.

When the bolt-actions, without scopes, were identical in all regards to the bolt-actions with scopes, it was my feeling that they were overpowered.

For those of you comparing cod4 and cod:waw, please consider that that game did not have this problem. The only bolt-action rifles in that game had scopes.

For those of you comparing cod:waw and previous cod games before 4, please remember that those games did not have attachments or modifiable weapon and health values that come from the perks. (more on this below).

Here is an inside development story just for you.

i seriously considered cutting non-scoped, bolt-action rifles in the game.

making a non-scoped, bolt-action rifle work in a game with the sheer number of smgs, lmgs, hmgs, as well as semi and full-auto rifles, a game (mind-you) where you can pick any starting gun at any time (that you have unlocked), a game not limited to 1 of each of those categories because you happen to start a particular nationality (like previous ww2 cod games), a game with perks that modified weapon and health of the players, and you are cooking yourself a recipe that might not taste too good to some players.

It's not like i tried to go out of my way and punish bolt-action rifle users. Anyone who even remotely thinks that should unsubscribe from this thread.

We had beer-truck sized computers crunching the data.

So, let's leave the emotion out of it and figure out what to do next.

                    Re: CoD5 PC Beta?

Why can't they make the unscoped bolts 2 hit kill w/o stopping power, and 1 hit with it. That way, if a player wants to take the time to achieve the skill to use one properly (the unscoped bolt for ex.) they are rewarded.
They have such fear that they will be overpowered, but remember, 3/4 the kids that get the game will start running around with LMG's/SMG's/AR's - not getting good with single shot bolt rifles.

Maybe I read that wrong, but I just don't see why it can't be like it was in CoD2 . It was a valued skill to be good with a rifle - and I'd like to see that make its way back into the series.

Yeah. I think they're finally seeing the difficulty with using the modern attachments and weapon ideas from COD4 in the WWII environment of COD:WW, coupled with the RNG style of play that a lot of COD4's players got used to.

Ditto. There is pleasing the CoD4 players, then there is pleasing CoD fans from all of the other games that were in the series in the WWII setting with bolt action rifles.

Well, I think thats the problem. They are trying to please both sides at once and its going to be a very fine line. Cod4 was a split from CoD<4. Its not the same game and the fans want the old way and the new entries want the new style. Activision is stuck in the middle.

Im sure we all remember the posts on how CoD4 was nothing like 2 and was bad and so on and so forth.

On the callofduty site we here how this game is "just like" cod4 as well as "bolt actions are too powerful/not powerful enough" They are in the middle now and dont know how to go.

I agree with the cod2 note. The problem is, what with Stopping Power and Juggernoob perks, I don't see that level playing feild of Kar on Lee Enfeild coming back anytime soon to the Call of Duty Series.

According to that developer "Vahn", they're still looking at the rifles issue and are willing to make changes. Even if we don't like what we see during the PC Beta, we will probably get the opportunity to have our input make tweaks when the game is patched.

One great thing about PC, even if they don't tweak it properly...custom servers.

One of the main reasons why I never play FPS on console, and much rather do it on PC.
