beacons are good if you know the ins n outs of maps and how to put them out of reach of the enemy. camp gib between toll and harbour is good as if your eu and your pinned down at eu base then spawn away. harbour flag by then is normally 95% free provided you aint got anyone on the opposing side who listens out well with headphones for that awful beacon sound drone

Re: You gotta admit this is helpful

I went through a period of time liking the otus, but I fell out of love with it for the same reason shaz mentioned first off - the time delay on the update means that it's misleading, and tbh, nothing that an IDS wouldn't accomplish (aside from the vertical positioning factor).

I HATE beacons however I can see how they can have a more conceivable use to a discerning squad leader. However the times they should be used are few and far between. You need to have a full squad, and you should be organised. 6 people podding down on a well hidden beacon at exactly the same time for example can cause some serious carnage, but having people come down one at a time achieves nothing except to either die to campers or to split up the squad, rendering the squad-play somewhat redundant.

Best use of beacons is hidden around silos on titan games, or if you must use them in infantry maps my primary use is when taking a hectic flag and I know I won't survive. Beacon goes down then as a last resort if I can organise my squad to come down on it again. However, once the objective is complete, the beacon is picked up again. I agree in theory with the idea of a beacon behind enemy lines for use later on - but in the "here and now" when the squad leader is making a good move forward and I can't spawn on them, it can cripple that movement somewhat.

It's just a shame that 9 times out of 10 if I join a squad, the squad leader puts a beacon down either in a place nowhere near the battle in home territory, or in amidst the enemy so it's guaranteed death on spawn

Tbh, there's nothing I appreciate more than a good squad leader who keeps himself alive and enables his team to spawn into safety behind the enemy.

i hate that, i always want to be in the thick of action, not hiding out in some dark corner so my squad mates can spawn on me. i guess it suits some people's style of play, but not mine.

You can do both - it just requires tact and practice. I can happily get into the thick of the enemy and keep myself alive just by careful positioning, run-timing, route-planning and cover usage. It gives squad members a short run to the enemy and ultimately the objective.

The best squad leaders do exactly that IMO - they reduce the time it takes to get their soldiers into action and killing people. Even if I SL strategically trying my best to get my squad to take flags with such a method I can still happily rack up the most kills/points on the server. I think you've got the wrong impression of what I meant :P

As I play almost exclusively Camp and Suez and use the SL beacons only as follows:

              1) Camp only as PAC; 1) on top of the building facing the harbor flag, 2) between the trainwagons or on the far left close to the stairs in front of toll station and sometimes near the EU main base.

              2) Suez, exclusively on top of the enemy or own Titan, otherwise I let my squad spawn on me or in the transport.

Sometimes when playing Cerbere, there are 2-3 good and useful beacon spots I use on the far left side from the PAC base all the way up to the EU base.

As someone said, save's me a lot of running all the way back from the spawn points.

Having said that, there's only a few good servers with squad minded players such as monkey, 50K, moon and (sometimes) timeless which allow good use of beacons.

I hate taking EU base on Cerbere, if my SL doesn't have a beacon up there, i refuse to run all the way up there to die as soon as i peak my head around the wall

beacons are 99% waste of time, but who cant say theyve felt defeated by a full squad podding onto the cerbere tower... sigh

otus is super useful, but if i go sl i will usually take accipter, ids and dystek. ganz for defence, clark for attack. just feel like a terminator with all that kit on, and my 5 medics keep me trucking

beacons are only really useful in titan.

the beacons effectiveness is entirely based on the squad leader abilities and the willingness of the squad to follow his orders. The beacon is supposed to be for situational use. Place it correctly and you can launch a quick assault on a hot area. Place it poorly and you will fracture your squad and make easy targets for the enemy.

I use the beacon quite often. I never just throw it in a corner somewhere and leave it for the round. I will often get to a safe area, deploy the beacon and notify my squad to use it so we can take over an area by surprise. A smart squad leader will return to pick up the beacon and also notify his squad that it is unsafe to use the beacon if enemies are camping it.

Used correctly, the beacon is a very valuable resource.

Just set it down, tell your squad mates to all spawn on it at the same time. Has anyone managed to do that? :salute:

the most epic part is the squadleader himself who tells people to wait when the round is started and to spawn when he tells it (at a flag for example)

When I hear "hold your spawn." I know I am in good hands. :)

Though, less so when I'm the one saying it and not a single person follows the order.

I use it when there's no commander. You have to be careful not to rely or follow the boxes though, it's just a heads up thing not OMG ENEMY THERE thing.
