Battlefield 2142 supports widescreen, so see what resolution options it gives you, make sure you have +widescreen 1 in the shortcut target.
I'm running at 1680x1050@60Hz which is 16:10.

1600x1200@60Hz is the highest it goes, but with or without the +widescreen 1 setting its still using the 1920x1200 resolution even though it says 1600x1200@60Hz in the Video settings of both Battlefield 2 and 2142...
