Kicked to Desktop

No matter what I try I'm sent back to desktop...

I have just recently built a new system and haven't played BF2 in 6 months or longer so I'm probably forgetting something to try but I have tried everything I can think of...

Failed - Deleting the Battlefield 2 folder in the My Documents folder
Failed - Un-installing/Re-installing Battlefield 2
Failed - Edited the resolution in the Default Video.con to 800x600@60Hz
Failed - Launching BF2 before and after the patch
Failed - Changing desktop resolution before Launching BF2
Failed - Creating BF2 shortcut and adding +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200

My video card drivers and audio drivers are all up to date, I just recently slipstreamed Service Pack 3 onto my Windows disc so I'm on a fairly fresh install aswell. DirectX is also up to date as I've used the web update executable from Microsoft which downloads every past version.

By the way I also have Battlefield 2142 and I'm having the exact same problem...

I'd really appreciate any helpful suggestions here - I'm all out of ideas at the moment...

I had this problem not to long ago it it came down to this bit here......

Creating BF2 shortcut and adding +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200.


Just my monitor's native res is 1680 X 1050, but that's not even what i was trying to enter.

I wanted to lower it to 1440 X 900, but ever time it just kept sending my back to the desk top.

I would try a different res if i was you or get rid of that command altoghter and see if that works.

Yeah I am using the default shortcut, "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" and I get a black screen for a few seconds then it changes resolution I see my desktop huge with the BF2.exe in the task bar really huge (800x600) and then I'm back on my desktop with the BF2.exe process automatically terminated...

I've tried every resolution with the same result, I read somewhere the game is looking for 800x600@60Hz but LCD's default to 60Hz on every resolution and I can't change it in Display Properties anyway...

I've tried Refresh Force and hit restore defaults and rebooted still no luck - maybe someone doesn't want me to play Battlefield anymore...

Yes that's what happened to me and it still turned out to be this bit.......


Creating BF2 shortcut and adding +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy
1200.


Try getting rig of that command by right clicking on the BF2 icon and then go to propeties and then delete this bit....... +szx 1920 +szy
1200, so all you have left is ...............................

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1.

Try that and see if you have any luck.



PS. it does say this................. +menu 1 +fullscreen 1.............................after the BF2.exe bit, RIGHT ????????


You don't need to add the +menu 1 + fullscreen bit as that should already be there.

Like i say, try and get rid of that command and leave it so it looks just like this, word for word.

You can copy and paste that if you like.

The shortcut that's made after installation is simply:
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe"

Only shortcuts which are modified by the user will have:
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200

I've tried both and I've pasted the Target line so you know exactly what is in there. I don't think this is the problem as I've tried with the edited executable and I've also tried without editing it and I get the same result every time.

WRONG.

This is the STANDARD short cut that has not been modified in any way.

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1.


Its meant to have the full screen and menu bit there already without anybody modifing anything.


This is probably where you are going wrong some how, but you seem to know it all, so get on with it.

What desktop resolution and refresh rate is your screen running?
Do you have the disc versions of the game or are they downloaded from EA?
I would try deleting the Battlefield 2/2142 folder in My Documents, reboot into safe mode and try starting the game from there.

Yea, the default unmodified shortcut should have "+menu 1 +fullscreen 1" in it

Well mine didn't but it doesn't make a difference the game still fails to make it to the intro video. I have no idea why I remember playing on my 24" LCD in the past - maybe Core 2 Duos is too much powah!

What is that supposed to mean?

What desktop resolution and refresh rate is your screen running?

My desktop is at 1920x1200@60Hz and I have deleted the Battlefield 2/2142 folders in My Documents. I'm going to try rebooting into safe mode and starting the game right now...

Nobody but I had a few other things irritating me like the Windows Volume Controls switching from Playback to Recording Windows would not save what I had previously checked. Now it's working fine...

Although I am using McAfee and Firefox 3 and the SiteAdvisor is supposed to be at the bottom right of the browser its right below the favorites toolbar on the top left, really annoying eating up real estate on my desktop...

I can now re-create the problem by editing the video.con files located in My Documents with the resolution and frame rate of 1920x1200@60Hz the game seems to not like it at all and I have no choice but to run that game at 1600x1200@60Hz which is pretty lame because my monitor is capable of 16:10 resolutions...
