Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky - Whos tried it?

on my first playthrough I got to Army Warehouses then suffered the dreaded LUA error and my saves corrupted

A stalker guru of mine gave me a set of gamedata scripts that apparently included a lot of fixes and on my second playthrough I have had zero serious problems, no crashes or save game corruption and I got all the way to the end of the game

but I was getting deviation shooting from the hip in Clear Sky, I only usually do it when some dam bloodsucker decloaks next to me and I hold fire in panicmode lol

going back to the weight question I was able to carry a whopping 125kg of stuff by equipping 2 goldfish artifacts, they are hard to get but dam they are useful, I had a stupid amount of stuff in Limansk, pity you can't go back after going there though

Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky - Whos tried it?

I know, in SoC I would mod the weapon file and add the m203 launcher and silencer to it, was a beast

I am working on making a small mod to add the g36 to a selected traders inventory though because it is still in the game files

might have been that I missed it around the Hospital area, I know for a fact nobody was carrying one but you never know might have been in a stash

Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky - Whos tried it?

I got it today, the game cashed so many ****ing times. I also got the corrupt saved files bug, luckily it was only like 10 - 15 mins into the game. Most of that was reading/listening to the conversation and looking around at how pretty it was, so when I made a new game I just skipped all that. It crashed a lot, mostly when I was loading games or moving to new areas but sometimes it would happen three times in half an hour. That might have been mostly my fault because I loaded games quite a lot from dieing so many god damn times. I found the game a lot harder than the original. xD

Some things were easier though as there is a lot of ammo caches around, for the moment, which was great and thank god there is an indicator for when nades are thrown near you. In my case it was a good thing not because the enemy were good at throwing them, I generally moved a round a lot so their nades couldn't hit me, it was because I kept sneaking up on the enemy only to have the stalkers "helping" me out throw nades at them which then landed almost on top of me on three separate occasions in the first few hours of playing. >_<

SPOILER, not a major story line spoiler but it does happen while doing the main objectives and I feel is quite an important event that was kind of a kick to the balls.

There is a part where a pair of bandits take all your money and all your equipment, leaving the worst pistol behind and some ammo. You can track them down and get your stuff back. This was a tedious task for me because it was night time and pitch black. They didn't have their flash lights on, like most other stalkers do, so I could hardly see them unless they were in front of me and in range of my flash light which was a dangerous thing to do when I had a no armour with a pistol and they had armour with assault rifles. It took quite a while to do, but on my third try I got an extremely lucky bug. First I managed to get into a position where I could just see their outline and take one out with a headshot. I then saved, thinking I should of done that last time because I knew the last guy would be hard to take out in a straight fight. With no med kit or bandages I would bleed to death if I got too badly injured, which of course happened because I suck and I had a crappy pistol, no armour and against an enemy I couldn't see. The lucky bug that happened was when I loaded the saved game from after I killed the first bandit the other one sits down again, brings out the guitar, starts playing and totally ignores me. I then just walk up point blank and put a few bullets into the back of his head.
That's not the worst part though; after I got my stuff back and the side object says I got my stuff back I decide to carry on with the main objectives and I get to the next area, after taking out a bandits check point. I then get to the duty base in the next area and go to the trader to sell off some of my stuff and then I see I have absolutely no ****ing money. I then seem to recall from reviews that once bandits take out money there is no way of getting it back, luckily I fully upgraded the armour I was using and I think it's a minor set back I will just play on. Now I think if I hadn't upgraded my armour I would of lost pretty much every thing I had worked for and I would load up an old saved game no matter how far back. It's entirely possible that I could of gotten my money back from another crate or something that I missed, as it was dark. After the objective to get your stuff back said it was completed I just didn't even think I needed to look around any more though.
If they want realism in the game that's fine, I enjoy a lot of the other "realism" features in the game, but it's still a game and adding a scripted event which will make people not want to continue playing and load up a saved game is a ****ty thing to do.

To finish off this terribly long post of criticisms about this game all I have left to say is I ****ing love it. It's great, I don't care how many bugs it has or how many times it crashes because when I'm playing it I forget about all that. Just like the first game it just sucks me and no matter how many times it kicks me out to reality with a crash I come crawling back like the trembling broken addicted player I am.

I would write more but I'm extremely tired so I'm going to bed. I will post some of my fantastic experiences I've had with the game later.

Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky - Whos tried it?

Talk to me steam Dead, I have something that will most likely fix a lot of your problems (I am also assuming you are playing with the first patch?)

I made it all the way to the Military Warehouses first time then I got a CTD error and save corruption but a friend of mine gave me some fixes

the problem also lies in those ammo crates you speak of, they can be an absolute gold mine (I once made 30k from selling ammo in there) but because they charge over time they can eventually cause level crashes etc

Money isn't hard to make if you know how, participate in the faction wars, especially in Swamps, such as capturing and defending objectives and always, I mean always search anomalie fields, I am working on a guide for that atm but getting artifacts will make you large amounts of money

In both of my playthroughs I left the swamp with 20k+ and that gave me enough to buy the lovely SEVA suit, which I used until the end of the game

atm on my second run through, I made a save before Limansk (so I could reload it after finishing the game) and have gone back to do the Faction war with Freedom vs Duty

            and I have 120k

as for those bandits when you go to get Fangs PDA, nothing can be done about that I am afraid, what I did was simply spend all my money in Dark Valley until I had about 69RU left, it got my guns and suit maxed, then I left all my stuff in the ammo crate on the second floor of the fleamarket before going down there, but sadly you can't get your money back off them, just remember that Bandits are SCUM they must be shot on sight

Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky - Whos tried it?

Right-o, I saw you playing it through steam yesterday but I didn't want to disturb you.

I read about that ammo bug as well, I'm not surprised because the amount of ammo I saw in some of the crates was crazy. Some ammo types were going into the thousands and it was still quite early in the game.

I've just gotten to the duty base following the main objective and as I remember you saying you were going to join Freedom so I said I was going to Duty. So I'm going to stick around here for a while doing tasks for these guys, start getting some of my money back while I'm at it.

I also left Swamps with around 20k, but I was too slow to complete the last objective so I didn't get the clear sky armour. I bought the "Berill 5M" something or other armour. It's not great but it saved my life when I came up against the first bandit check point. I've also fully upgraded it down the bullet protection line, as I guessed bullets were still the most dangerous thing in the game so far (It will probably stay like that for all the game). I also had to go in game to remember the name and then it just sucked me in again when I saw the sun rays through the tree from the sun rise. Lucky I did play on a while because I helped kill some bandits, they had nothing great but they killed 2 stalkers with TRs 301's which I've been looking for. :yay:
I was saving up my money to upgrade this gun when I got it but now I got no money. >_<

I've only found one artifact so far, well I found a second one in a bandits base in the garbage but if I went in then they just shot me down. There was not a lot of cover for me so I left it. I might go back now that I have my TRs 301 and fully upgraded armour.

What you did when you lost your money is what I suspect most people will do. It's a pretty crappy game mechanic but I think I read some where they're changing it so they don't take all of the money in a new patch?

My favourite moments so far have been in the swamp during the day time it all looks really nice. It has a nice ambience to it and was creepy but I didn't really feel scared of it, seeing as there were quite a few allies around and the sun rays makes everything look pretty. I was going around looking for the stashes I had discovered when night time hit and I was out in the middle of the swamps all alone and ****ting myself. Walking back to a guide so I could go back to base and sell my catch. I then hear rustling and some sort of growling in the reeds next to me, I turn but my light doesn't pierce the think reeds so I just leg-it screaming. I then turn around to see in the pitch black just out side of my flash light range two glaring white eyes of a beast chasing me and I just freak out unloading everything I have at it in a blind panic. When I start shooting it dives back into the reeds and I continue my tactic of running away like a little girl. Luckily I didn't see it again but it's then I decided I am getting the hell out of these swamps.

Another great moment I had was my first encounter with bandits in the garbage. I've enjoyed pretty much every gun fight I've had so far, even the ones where my allier threw nades at me. I find them to be a great mix of being challenging and fun. My fight against the bandits is probably my favourite shoot-out so far. When I first enter the garbage I checkout the map and I see there is a bandit check point right in front of me, it's manned by nine bandits. I walk up to them and they draw their weapons at me and say something about lowering my weapon they just want to talk. I comply and one of them starts walking towards me but I then remembered from the stalker reviews that they take all your stuff. Before the bandit reaches me I fall back on my favourite tactic of running away like a little girl. They start shooting, thank god I decided to buy that new armour because if I had the beginning armour I would probably be dead. I make it over a little hill and then use a med kit and a few bandages to heal and stop the bleeding.
I hear them shout something, which they do during fights when they throw grenades so I get up and start to run again. I then see a grenade icon appear on my screen, then another, then another and they just keep on coming. I'm now screaming like a little girl again as this multitude of explosions erupt behind me and I make it some way behind them, I look back to see that they seem to have let me go and are returning to the check point. I begin to think they're probably pretty proud of them selves making a grown man scream like a child. I'll show them what this little girl can do, I'll show them all! I get off the main path and sneak up on them from the bushes and bring out my pistol, the most accurate gun I have, and then pop one of them in the head. The others now alerted return fire but I'm already on the move, circling around them to pop another in the head. I try to circle around again but they're more spread out now and can spot me.
I take cover behind a slope still under fire, now I'm thinking seeing as they love nades so much I will give them all the nades they want. I press 4 to bring out my nades and then... nothing. "uh, oh." I check my inventory and I have nades in there so I try 4 again but no luck. I check my mini map and I can see some red dots trying to flank me, I start to panic. Thinking that maybe if I drop them all and pick them up again I can use them. I bring up my inventory, right click, drop all. I look down to realise I'm still on the slope and I let out a shriek of surprise as I see all my nades rolling away from me, I give chase thinking I must be screwed if even my nades think this fight is a lost cause and want out. I catch and collect them just in time to turn around to see two of the bandits who were flanking aim and fire. I whip out my AK74 and return fire while scrambling for any cover I can find. Luckily there's a thick tree near me which provides perfect cover against these two miscreants who I drop after a while.
I check my mini map again to see I can return to the slope I was originally at which out any bandit interference. I say a quick prayer and press 4 again, to my utter joy I bring out a grenade, hold down right mouse button to give it some range and then I finally give them a taste of their own medicine as I see them running away from my nade. I shout out "Now who's the little girl." down my microphone, unfortunately only the people in teamspeak hear me and are left quite confused. I throw a few more to keep them scattered and I pop out of cover to take 3 more down. I reload and throw one more nade to keep them confused and I start to circle around again, I'm suddenly under fire "****, I've been spotted." My armour takes the hits and I return fire to drop the eighth guy. Only one left, I reload, heal up and start to close in on the check point. He spots me and starts firing before I see him, I quickly duck behind some crates and take a quick peak out to see he's moved to almost point blank range. I panic and make a run for different cover while unload my entire clip at the guy while I'm running, combined with the fact the AK74 isn't that accurate while stationary almost all my bullets miss. I'm about to reach a truck to use as cover when I see he's in the open and reloading, I think I've got him now so I stop and bring out my pistol. I take careful aim at his head and then bang! I miss. I aim again and double tap, miss, shoulder shot. I see he's almost finished reloading so I rush him screaming bloody murder and empty the rest of my pistol clip at him and he goes down.
I take a moment to catch my breath and let the relief flow over me. Looking around at all the dead bodies, reminiscing about what just happened, I think "I ****ing love this game."

There is another great scary moment but I believe it's part of the main objectives and I don't want to ruin it because it's fantastic.

Long post is long. Sorry for grammar and spelling mistakes, I'm not good at writing. >_<

Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky - Whos tried it?

yeh the dam ammo boxes will fill up to stupid levels, selling the Armour piercing rounds to Traders will net stupid amounts of money, fortunately they don't fill up for me anymore and my game is fine

going to Yantar at night (big mistake) was a good moment for me, Zombies kept attacking me and I had to spend the night fighting them off

or going into Red Forest and hearing random noises that scared me stiff, then trying to find cover next to an electrical anomalie field as I hear the dam bloodsucker roar, I look around and can't see him anywhere, then all the anomalies next to me get set off, getting closer and closer cos the dam thing was running through the field, Bloodsuckers don't take damage when they are cloaked so its equally worse, unfortunately I fired a nade right into his face point blank when he decloaked and I died. I went a different route after reloading

The Swamps can be very nasty yeh, especially with the marsh bloodsuckers that come out of nowhere, it is a scary place. As for artifacts they're invisible and only appear in anomalie fields so look for tightly grouped anomalies, volcanic formations etc, the swamp haze (glowing green acid crap you can see from a mile away) etc and use the detector on it

I am going to try and complete the faction wars with Freedom, then try it with Duty as I have made a backup save

EDIT: Second patch has been released

They really need to fix these bugs before they release. The first one had the exact same problems.

They should be picked up in QA, but they are fast with the patches, pitty about the incompatibility with savegames but they are offering the service that the community want, all in all its a great game :).

the second patch will also improve your fps by quite a bit, also makes the game a lot more stable according to the people I have talked to (that had problems before)

oh and if anyone wants the lovely G36 back (it is a beast in Clear Sky especially upgraded)

that is a small mod I made that should, add the G36 to the Freedom trader, it will also allow plenty of mechanics to upgrade it

although if it doesn't work tell me cos the trader files are dam annoying to change

the multiplayer can be quite entertaining, especially using the crap guns on overconfident players lol

its fun but certainly not to everyones tastes

it is nothing like COD4 at all
