I want BF3 to come out as much as the next person, but i don't think it will be coming soon, and am not gonig to hold my breath for it aswell, because at the end of the day if they decide to go back to the year 1939 (WW2 time) then am not goning to like it, and the same can be said if they go forward to 2142 (futureristic crap) then am not going to like that too.

I only really like moden time games, so if they stay about this time or just a few years ahead (5-10 years) then they can't go wrong, 60 backwards or 140 forwards and am out.

PS. I know the BF game was called 1942.

Well that's your choice, but it's a shame you wouldn't even try a game because it's WW2. Personally I think an updated version of BF1942 (with new maps, of course, although there's nothing wrong with the old ones either) on the new BF engine would have the potential to be outstanding. Then again time period isn't really important to me, so if they went WW2 or Vietnam or modern times or future again it wouldn't make much difference to me (although truth be told of all the eras I find WW2 to be the most intriguing), so long as the game itself is good. But again, if the time period is the selling point for you, then that's your choice.

Am not saying/have never said that i would not try a WW2 game.

I have played WW2 games in the past and i just don't like them, really don't like them.

I have played BF2142 and other games in the futrue and don't like them too.

Its the weapons for me, i like to use modern day weapons and not crap like a M1 grand (even though it was a very good gun in real life) or useing crap weapons like a plasma cannon or some crap does not cut it with me.

Am fine with modern day games.

I would love to see them adopt "Battlefields" without a time period. I'm sure that's a massive undertaking, but it would be cool to play "El Alamein", then "Battle for the Phillipines" and after that "Kosovo Peace Keepers" or something.

            You get where I'm going?

What about "Battlefield: Terror" where the game never ends?

            /off topic

A lot of folks "know" that DICE is working towards the release of a new Battlefield game other than Heroes. When it will arrive is something that we just won't know until we are informed, so everything leading up to that will be a version of untruth/unreality called "speculation"... lol

While I agree, the amount of skinning and texturing alone that would have to be done to make a game that encompasses a multitude of eras would be mind-boggling. You'd essentially be getting four or more games all in one, and you'd either have to have anywhere from 40 to 80 maps, or each set of graphics would only be used on a couple of different maps which would make it almost not worth the effort. If they were to do something like that, the sticker price should be no less than $100 USD and probably more in the neighbourhood of $150-$200 USD, given that it's essentially four games in one. To say nothing of the amount of time it would take to actually make the game, meaning we'd probably see DNF and Diablo 3 before BF3.

So yeah, you're right about the 'massive undertaking' part, to be sure.

uh remember BF vietnam? it also ran WW2 maps and it wasn't such a mind-boggling undertaking, was it? don't need 40-80 maps, just a few from each era would be awesome. the complete BF experience, that would be something.

It only ported a few maps over (Philippines, Midway, and I can't remember the other...Iwo Jima?), but considering the amount of work that would go into creating a map and gun models, soldier models, vehicle models, building textures, et cetera, and then you want them to do that for four eras, and each with only a few maps? That's like taking a box of parts and spending a long time building a car out of it that you're only going to use to drive 100m to the grocery store and back.

Edit: Plus, since BF:V and BF1942 ran on the same engine I would imagine all they had to do was tweak the BF1942 skins a bit, rather than create them from scratch so they'd be suitable for the newer engine.

That's like 2142 and BF2... People easily got 2142 weapons and such into BF2 because they ran on the same engine - so if they did something similar to that it wouldn't be such a huge undertaking.

Although, because the BF2/2142 engine need serious updating to keep with the times, it would be quite a grand undertaking. I'd much rather have a single-era shooter that has better gameplay than a multi-era shooter with mediocre gameplay.

                        Am with you on that.

And if it was set in the present, i would be double happy.

I'd want BF3 to be modern and then follow it up with a WW2 or Vietnam based sequel. Release more maps for the game. If they must do a futuristic build, make it the 3rd release in the BF3 series.

I'd like to see mod maps in BF3. I remember playing COD United Offensive expansion and if it was loading a map you didn't have, it would automatically download it to your PC. There were great maps like Minas Tirith and Helms Deep from the Lord of the Rings movies. I realise that the ranking system causes a problem for this, but maybe EA could set up a vetting system to allow mod maps to be ranked.

EA have alienated the mod community with there lack of support, and I think they know this. If they brought in this kind of system not only would it please the community, but also increase the amount of maps, and the longevity of the title for little effort on EA's part. There could be WW2 and futuristic maps/skin/weapons.

Thank goodness; I'm not insane. Microsoft plans to do that with community made games for the Xbox (vetting the maps), and they'll be sold on the Marketplace for money. Surely we can do this with stuff which will be distributed for free. The community could maintain that fairly easily.
