Talking Big Planes (All Mod Teams)

One thing that all mods have in common, and its a thing they dont have, some big planes, like the c 130 hercules (i know desert conflict does) The Nimrod MR2, the C-17, the A400M and maybe a few more, now i know the physics of making a big plane are maybe difficult but if desert conflict did it everyone else can too.

And something i still can't believe i haven't seen in any of the big mods, a chinook, i saw NAW are throwing the idea around, but come on, a chinook, its like the most used chopper in every day war and i haven't seen one in any game.

Also something else to think about, civilian vehicles, i know PR have some but nothing spectacular (I mean that with the up most respect guys, you are doing a valiant effort) but if we are talking reality here, i doubt a war would break out and every civilian vehicle just upped and dissapear, i'd love to get into a dodge pickup or 18 wheeler and cruise the battlefield.

Come on, any mod team out there, rise to the challenge that has been set, and make us all proud. Only the best will win!

What purpose would large jets like that serve in a mod for BF2? I mean, I suppose you could do it, but why?

Now, I can see something like the AC-130U Spooky being very useful, although it'd require a full squad to crew it (as to take soldiers off the battlefield and even out the cost of having something that powerful in the air). You have the three main positions, Pilot, Fire Control Officer (talks to the commander and receives laser coordinates from troops on the ground and spots specific points for bombardment), and the gunner. Perhaps they'd have to fly at a very, very high altitude before they could fire.

Forgotten hope 2, they have that spy plane thing, same thing goes for an awac, its a spy plane.

B52, big heavy bombers, drop like 50 bombs at a time, desolate big bases.

Mainly, transport, fly at a high altitude with 2 squads in the back, parachute over their specifide destination.

They have two benefits, one if we are talking making a realistic mod, these things are in everyday war, so are very realistic, two, if you want a mental mod, they are big fun things to have a go at.

I for one love the AC130 in Desert Conflict, its just a shame no one plays the mod.

BF2 maps are simply too small for most of these planes, and ehh, the idea behind the chinook is one of the big downfalls is that you can only have a max of 8 seats in a vehicle, which in PR we already have fully used up for the normal transport choppers, ie, black hawk, huey, merlin etc.

Can you not merge two vehicle meshes?

I personally have not tried it but know that theory has been attempted before and has said not to work in BF2.

Now thats a solid reply, gives me info. I did realise in the DC maps where the AC130 is, you do get the border of the map very quickly, so that is understandable, but they are still great fun, and i think would look great in the game.

And downer about the chinook, but just have 8 seats instead then

USI is planing to have a C-130 and on a map like Hogsmoke, it would have plenty of airspace:

It just explodes once it starts moving, that's what I heard. BF2 engine doesn't like stuff like that. :|:

So, what's wrong with simply an 8 seat Chinook?

                      Better than nowt.

well we still may make one for PR, thou ehhh, the problem at the moment is that its just going to be anouther chopper, not that much different from the merlin apart from it looks bigger, and has 2 main rotors.

Thou it is really needed for one of our new maps (Sangin), which is part of Afghanistan, Helmand Province since the main life line for the British there is the Chinook for transport, supply etc. The map just wouldn't feel right without one.

But ye, a lot of work for just a new, bigger merlin that dose the same job, apart from maybe it can deploy 2x the amount of supply crates :p

It's not an spyplane. It's a officers transport and recon plane.

I agree. I wish there was some way to stimulate interest in USI as it is very well done, but no one plays it.
