oh, that sounds like how nades work in 2142. for some reason i felt like it was more generous about not exploding mid-air.

btw, do some vehicles not show the hit indicator even if you score a hit? i swear i was hitting a tank with my tank but i wasn't getting any hit indication.

Minmaster, get AIX installed! I need some backup...

I'm actually going to give PR a real try once they release the next update. That looks to be sweet, too.

Vanilla BF2 is kinda yucky. lol

          what's AIX? some mod?

i don't think i'd be much of help though, i'm getting pwnd pretty hard. not knowing the weapons, maps, vehicles, etc. i am pretty much cannon fodder out there. it's a much cruel world than 2142.

question: does this game have a infantry carried anti-AA weapon like the SAAW? and i can't zoom in and out on the scope with sniper rifles?

No, lol, yes Mini you will get owned I came to BF2 from 2142 myself. After some time though, you will get used to everything. Vehicle VS IO is like city maps VS titan. Most of my clan stink and hate titan, I like to specialize in both as much as possible. You just have to get to know the enviroments. If you solo'd in 2142, solo missiling in choppers is like being spoonfed compared to gunships in terms of not falling. Choppers are much more manuverable than gunships and when you switch seats, keep flying and spinning. Jets are a blast, but I only take one if I see it available.

Haha, you and just about everyone else wishes. No, there's no soldier-carried AA, which is yet another reason good pilots can rule unopposed unless there's a good pilot on the other team.

Nope, you get the default zoom factor and that's it.

I find BF2 to be much faster and fun then 2142, as for vehicles everyone thinks they are overpowerd that's not true, if your a good pilot you just jump into your jet and shoot everyone down and make sure your team can cap some flags. I avoid 64 player servers at all costs they are just nade spamming competitions.

You just explained the very reason why vehicles are OP in BF2...

Anyways, BF2 is like a slap to the face compared to 2142... It is a bit faster and "fluid" but in a bad way imo Air vehicles rapes pretty much anything, which is fun when you're in one yourself but not fun at all when you finally got a tank for the first time in 60 minutes and gets insta-killed by a TV missile. *grumble grumble*

Guns are in general more inaccurate than in 2142, most weapons are just as accurate unscoped as scoped (even over range)... There is no real way to dodge claymores, they have a range of 5 meters and you can't even shoot them. They just lie there until some ******* runs in front of one and kills half his team There is no such thing as medhub or ammohub, people just drop a kit on the ground and anyone walking over it gets fully resupplied or healed which renders the assault class useless (unless you actually want to be banned from servers from using the GL)

That was generally the "bad" things but it really is a great game (even though 2142 beats it by a longshot in my opinion)... The mods are awesome, especially AIX and the WTF mod (if you're into realistic stuff PR is also great)

hmm ok so many are saying if you're not well acclimated to vehicles, especially aircraft just stick to the infantry only maps. so i play IO for a while and i'm not enjoying it very much. basically i'm just playing an infantry only fps game then, and it gets old after a bit. without the vehicles, it just becomes a COD4 style game on those karkand servers and if i want that style of gameplay i can just play COD4 which is superior in that regard. hit detection is flaky at best and it's really irritating hitting a guy with half your mag only to die by one of his bullets (or so it feels like). i guess i have to start learning vehicle combat because IO is not very fun. as evant3k says, maybe i should learn to "just jump into your jet and shoot everyone down."

                      Re: Hello Battlefield 2!

Mods are fun in BF2 and offer a different experience than vanilla BF2. There are a number of interesting ones...

I've tried to move to vanilla BF2 after playing 2142 and just hated it. Then, I found the Engineer kit in AIX and I've been playing that ever since.

So, once you've messed around with BF2, try out some mods.

                          Re: Hello Battlefield 2!

I completely disagree with anyone saying it's too hard to play as infantry on airmaps.

Yes, when you're new to the game it's obviously going to be difficult, but that's how you learn! Play against better opposition, and you get better yourself. You'll learn the smart ways to go, where to hide, how to use AA effectively (not only AA guns, also the .50 cals) and much more.

I always play as a squad leader in a very teamwork-oriented squad, I play on all maps, and I basically never fly. One good ground-pounding squad can really help your team out, no matter how good the enemy is in the air. You'll just have to learn the maps and find some tactics to counter (or avoid :p ) the flyboys.

And whoever mentioned Wake as an infantry-soldier's nightmare; Wake is actually one of my favourite maps to play on the ground. By being a squad leader and hiding in the right positions, your squad can really wreak havoc on this map...

@ Minmaster: Join a squad! If you find a decent squad, spawn on your squad leader and follow the squad around, you'll learn the game a lot faster than if you run around alone. Also, it's much more fun this way!
I'm not sure where your'e from, but if you ever want to play in a teamwork-based ground-squad, I'd love to play with you! :) I'm in Europe though, and play mostly on central European and British servers. My XFire name is Berrern.

I always find it easy to figure out where infantry is hiding in Wake either by commander spotting, or because they think they can get away in FAV's and DVP's. Especially when they think they can hide in the bunker at Beach or North village, I just shoot through the window. As for AA sites its a really bad idea to sit in one longer then 15 seconds because that's how long it takes me to turn around and shoot you from the time you lock on to me and missed because I deployed flares.

I wouldn't mind jets being machines of ultimate rape if only the infantry people had more place to hide... like some forests or something! Something for BF3 maybe, walking in the jungle with jets roaring over you ^^
