    Hello Battlefield 2!

OK, I'm few years late but finally bought BF2 complete collection today.:yay: tried it out for a little and so far it's pretty cool. i come from the BF2142 world but needed a new game when i got bored of it. BF2 seems to have a bigger following than BF2142, so i look forward to enjoying my time with all these players!

question: i also installed and activated euro force and armored fury but there is no icon on the desktop to launch these like special forces. are these built in to the vanilla game and i don't need a separate launcher? (sort of like northern strike for 2142) if not, how does it exactly work?

also, is it just me or a lot of servers are showing up as 0 ping? are they using a different port to block my pings on purpose? they seem to be foreign servers.

observation: a separate key for parachute instead of sharing it with jump? it's gonna take getting used to.

any useful tips for a 2142 player to make the transition would be appreciated. :salute:

as far as I can remember I think AF and EF are a part of bf2, not separate games, haven't played either in a long time

AF and EF are just like NS, they're booster packs not expansion packs

I bound my parachute to the 'backspace' key. easier to hit than the '9'.

also try out qtracker if your having server list issues.

I can't remember the number of times I've cratered in both BF2 and BF2142 when switching back and forth between the two games and forgetting which one is my parachute key. Now when I need my parachute I just spam spacebar AND mouse3 in both games (I remapped it to mouse3 in BF2). That way, no confusion.

any useful tips for a 2142 player to make the transition would be appreciated. :salute:
Get used to either playing 24/7 citymaps, or getting smeared by aircraft. The attack helis in this game make BF2142's gunships seem like plastic toys, and most of the people that fly them have had literally years of practice in them (Sloi's thread notwithstanding ), and the TV missiles are insta-kill on any vehicle and as I'm sure you've noticed there are no vehicle shields, only the worthless smoke. So if the enemy has control of the skies, don't bother getting in any ground vehicles other than cars because everything else moves too slowly and is too big to miss for most average gunners. You'll see, if you haven't already, that air plays a MUCH bigger part in this game than it does in BF2142.

            Parachute pull with space bar
            1. Go to bf2 and bind secondary key for parachute (Y for example)
            2. Now you have these two lines in the Controls.con file (C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Your main profile\)

            ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect9 IDFKeyboard IDKey_9 10000 0
            ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect9 IDFKeyboard IDKey_Y 10000 1

            3. replace the bottom one with this

            ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect9 IDFKeyboard IDKey_Space 10000 1

              Welcome! :salute:
When you activated Euro Force and Armored Fury, you added the Maps for those games to your total map collection. Now when you view all the Servers/Maps area for play you will now see the new maps you can play on (and some of them are sweet )

              Enjoy. :yay:

              Euro Force Maps:
              Great Wall
              Operation Smoke Screen
              Tabara Quarry

              Armored Fury Maps:
              Midnight Sun
              Operation Harvest
              Operation Road Rage

ok i'm getting killed in this game. wolfgang was right, it's either the infantry maps or get destroyed by air power. yikes, it's no fun playing those air heavy maps when you're on the ground. i think i'll avoid those for now. infantry maps are cool except when the enemy drops to the ground and kills me in an instant. how do they kill me so quickly when they prone? and it's ridiculous how you can prone so quick in this game, they should've slowed down the animation when you do that. well, got me doing it too now just to stay alive.

oh and thanks for the tip damaster about using space for parachute. i got it working.

oh and i find it interesting your rifle does damage to aircraft. i keep finding myself shooting in the air but it likely doesn't do much damage.

and no tank canon zoom? bah! ducking in the tank machine gun is cool though.

oh and i so miss countermeasure.

It's only a problem if the other team has complete control of the air. If the teams are even it's not an issue. Just don't stay in a weak vehicle caping a flag as any jet can spot you and take you down, they generally wouldn't know you were there otherwise.

the most fun air map for infantry imo is daqing, so fun to hide from those choppers and jets and you have lots of anti air vehicles and guns to use against them

Regarding prone, unlike in BF2142 (and BF:V and BF1942 for that matter), you get INSTANT accuracy when you hit prone in BF2. Imagine if you had an AR in BF2142 and you hit prone, then waited for about 2-3 seconds before firing. That's the kind of accuracy you have in BF2 the instant you hit the prone key. I remember when the BF2142 demo came out you could instantly recognise who was a BF2 vet by whether or not they opened every gunfight by pressing Z.

Also, whereas all vehicles are susceptible to aircraft, at the very least tanks are stronger in BF2. There's no cheesy OHK shot from another tank/AV missile as in BF2142, although the front and back of the treads is 50 damage if you manage to hit it. Although the offset is as you mentioned - no countermeasures to speak of.

And yes, small arms fire can damage aircraft but the damage is negligible. It's useful for if you see a smoking or flaming helicopter and you can sometimes take a couple of potshots with your rifle or pistol and steal the kills, though.

And thanks for the tip, DaMaster...I'll go remap that right now. Less cratering for me!

Oh, and predrag is correct - if you're going to play an airmap as a ground pounder or tanker, play Daqing. You'll still get pwnt by bomber jets and helis, but there are more places to hide and a lot of AA vehicles to go around so at the very least you'll have a chance of taking a few of em down. Whatever you do, stay away from Wake unless you, yourself, are hoping to fly (and even then you'll have to fight half your team for the aircraft). There is virtually nowhere to hide from the aircraft, there are no AA vehicles; only AA stations (which are by and large a joke since most jet pilots will kill you as soon as you hop into one), and there isn't much land mass to hide from arty strikes. It's really a foot soldier's nightmare.

Yeah, playing armor in BF2 is HELL if you came from 2142 and play on air maps. I'm never touching an APC again after dying from TV missiles 3 times in a row in Oman.

also is it me or is nade spamming a tad bit more prevalent in BF2? also, in 2142 nades will explode mid-air when thrown high into the air, but in BF2 they seem to always wait until they land to explode making nades even more deadly. right?

The nades in BF2 have a 4 sec fuse (not sure about 2142) so when thrown most of the time they go off on the ground, but they do sometimes go off in mid air too.

Also if you hit someone in the head with a nade it will kill them before it goes off, this can be done with smoke granades too.
