    Keyboard Warrior (aka chickenhawk)

    1. A Person who, being unable to express his anger through physical violence (owning to their physical weakness, lack of bravery and/or conviction in real life), instead manifests said emotions through the text-based medium of the internet, usually in the form of aggressive writing that the Keyboard Warrior would not (for reasons previously mentioned) be able to give form to in real life.
    2. The term is a combination of the word 'keyboard' (the main tool by which the person expresses his/her latent rage) and 'warrior' (due to the warrior-like aggression, tendency towards violence, headstrong nature and propensity towards brute force as a means of resolving conflict rather than more subtle means dependant on finesse).
    3. The Keyboard Warrior seeks to use the power imbued in his 'weapon' to effect death and destruction (in a strictly-metaphorical sense) upon his foes (other virtual identities he has encountered on the internet). In essence, the keyboard (ie. text input ability) allows the keyboard warrior to manifest his true warrior nature in a safe and removed environment, from which no real-life repercussions .
    4. Keyboard Warriors are generally identified by unneccessary rage in their written communications, and are regarded as 'losers' by other virtual identities on the internet.

Skates, not everyone in this generation is like that. My folks did a fine job of teaching me to act properly in public; using profanity simply shows a lack of class, a lack of class which, in the real world, will destroy you. Employers don't want foul-mouthed, uncouth people trying to interact with other people, especially in sales and customer support. You never see me swear in an online game, simply because I've been raised to be better than that.

And yes, even in today's society, parents are still the number one influence in a child's life, assuming they are around and actively parenting. That will never change. Rest assured, at an early age, they could instill a strong sense of values and morals into you which, while the real world would temper them, still would remain.

Part of the issue I find fault with are parents who just give into a child's demand for the newest video game his friends have. I had to wait until I was fourteen to even play a T rated game, and even then, my parents were still wary of it. I did get older, and they let me have M rated stuff around 16, but by that point, I was old enough to handle it. Simply put, 9 year olds and 10 year olds should not be playing this kind of stuff, period. It's better for us as the gaming community, and it's probably better for the child to stay away from the internet gaming culture, as nasty as it is.

Please don't try to turn this into a "Free Speech" argument. Obscene speech is not covered under the First Amendment to the Constitution. There have been plenty of court cases to support that fact.

Haha, I know, I know. That was a tongue-in-cheek statement.

But I really am opposed to language filters, I hate to be told to watch my language by random strangers or a robot on the internet. Now I certainly understand how someone spamming the chat with profanities can be annoying, but I don't see the harm in the occasional naughty word. I get annoyed when people act like they're my parents (not that I swear in front of my parents).

Sorry to lump your whole generation in there.

I couldn't agree more. More and more parents want society to take resonsibility for their children, relying on the schools and others to teach them the things that they don't want to take the time to do. (I guess most of that is my generation.)

Very true. Not just demands for games, but for anything. I live in a very affluent area of Orange County in So. Cal. You should have heard the arguments from my oldest who has now graduated. When the High School parking lot has Mercedes, BMW's, Lexus, etc... in it, your kid doesn't really want to hear that they have to wait, and work for things. (She bought a used Honda, with her own money that she saved up from a real job. Unlike a friend of hers that managed to save up $16K working odd jobs for his parents by the time he was 16yo and then got a brand new Mustang GT that his parents paid the balance for and pay his insurance and give him gas money.) I agree that kids don't need to be playing online games, not only because of the way the gaming culture is, but what parent in their right mind would send their kid down to the local park and be okay with them playing games with a bunch of strangers that range from 16-60 years of age?

Anyway, that's the end of my rant.:)

Swear words only have power to offend people because they give them that power. For example, going up someone in public and saying "F*ck you!" would*probably offend and madden them. If someone came up to me and said "F*ck you!", I'd probably laugh at them and move on, because those words don't have any more power to me than any other words.

I personally don't think that something as simple as a word isn't worth getting upset over, and calling people immature because of certain words they use is immature.

I can't force people to use swear words, and I don't want to. But I think that people who constantly attack people who do use them and insecure.

I don't swear, for the most part, and if someone came up to me and said "F*ck You" I still wouldn't freak out and get angry.

What it comes down to is that it is a matter of manners. Swearing profusely is akin to eating like an animal at an expensive restaurant with the CEO of your company. You eat properly in that situation to avoid being rude and appearing uncouth. The same goes for swearing.

You wouldn't walk into an interview and say "WTF is with this weather, its so sh!tty!" if you want to get the job, would you?

And why not? Think about it.

Not once, in all my hours of playing, have I ever gone into a server looking for a job.

Its called an analogy, i.e. something used to illustrate a point.

Improper manners are not appreciated anywhere by some people.

No bad words, just bad intentions. We give the "bad" words the power ourselves when we react so strongly to them.

Like I said, "Bad" words don't bother me or get me very upset. As a matter of fact I have friends who swear quite a bit.

That doesn't mean I approve of it or think it is mature.
