Actually, TGN supports community give aways provided they are fair and are not for profit.

are you always an unhappy person or is it just that time of the month?

Goodman says if they are given away and not sold then he is happy with that, if you look on the bfheroes.org forum you will see other people have ran "contests" to give away keys. what should it matter if i decided to ask a vauge question rather than do a random lottery or a first people to reply get a key type contest like others have done? If DICE had a problem with it they would have stopped the other threads but they dont as giving away the keys like this can only encourage people to sign up to BFH community sites and post.

I couldn't be bothered to collect everyones names and do a random lottery so a 'first to get a slightly vauge question right' seemed the easist and fair/fun way to do it. It also helps make sure the person that gets it has good taste in computers or at least knows how to use search which is needed for the closed beta :)

That picture could be doctored, not that hard, anyone with PS can do it. I can do the same thing and make it look like the CEO of EA emailed me a reply saying he likes me and wants to hire me.

How is that fair? What if 2 guys gave you the same answer, (Almost the same) and you like both of them? You got one key. Its easier to do a random draw to be fair, because the answer you pick, might not be the best one. Super computers arent just fast BTW.

heh yes it could be doctored but it was posted awhile ago now and if it was all lies then it would have been known by now. Also the reason i know it is real is because that post was linked in the qaboss forum where it was confirmed legit and said to be ok to give spare keys away. Feel free to check that on qaboss since you are in the beta.

The answer was always "Amiga" from the very start so it was just the first to post the correct answer so none of what you said is a problem and it is all fair.

The answer of course also depends on opinion....just as if i was to ask 2 hardware experts which is the "best" type of graphics card to get then one could say an Nvidia card while the other says an ATI card. Many factors can go into what is "best".

Stephen is staff with the Total Gaming League. Alex is a Network Administrator with the Total Gaming Network. That's quite a power gap in favor of Alex.

With that said, Alex is correct. TGN does allow, and sometimes promote, such activities on our forums provided they are not in violation of our board policies. Should a game developer or publisher request that we remove a thread for violation of their EULA or policies (or we are certain a thread is in violation of their EULA or policies), we will do so. So long as my superiors do not contact me and instruct me to remove such contests, they will be allowed.


I'll make sure this fact is known internally so we can avoid such a situation again.


Leki: If you have another key to give away, put a thread in the community submissions forum and I'll see about getting it posted as news.

The fastest computer nowadays can do about a few trillion computations per second, and has a few gigabytes of memory. Not too shabby. But is there a way to determine what the Best Computer Ever could do? If so, this would allow us to have some idea what we would be able to compute in the future, and to know what will forever be beyond our computational reach.
To imagine what our Best Computer Ever could do, we need to realize that every computation that is done will change some of the bits that make up memory, and that after the computation is completed the computer's memory will hold the answer. So the amount of memory available will affect the computational resources at our disposal. Also, the rate of computation (measured as the number of possible bit changes per second) will certainly affect what we can compute. And lastly, so does the total amount of time that a program is allowed to execute. So the three main variables that determine how much we can compute are 1) the amount of memory, 2) the speed of the computer, and 3) the amount of time the computer is allowed to execute a program.
How then do we try to determine what the Best Computer Ever can compute (measured as the number of possible bit changes that could occur while a program is running)? After all, we don't know what breakthroughs in physics, engineering, software, etc. will occur. Well, lets' go for broke. For our Computer's memory let's use all of the matter in the Universe! Can't do much better than this. How much matter is there? Astrophysicists think that there are a few hundred billion galaxies in the Universe, and that each galaxy has, on average, a few hundred billion stars. Since we know the average size of a star, and we can estimate the amount of matter not found in stars, astrophysicists have come up with a figure of about 1080 elementary particles (electrons, protons and neutrons) in the entire Universe. Let's also assume that each elementary particle can store a bit of information. So at any moment in time, our Computer can hold 1080 bits of information.
During a computation, the contents of memory changes, so the faster we can change memory, the more computations we can perform. Is there a limit to rate of computation? Yes, and it's determined by what is called a 'Plank time'. This is the theoretically shortest moment of time that is possible - there can be no changes that occur faster than a Plank time. Fortunately, a Plank time is very short, around 10-43 seconds. If we assume that our Big Computer can compute at the maximum possible rate, then it will be able to do 1043 computations per second. In case this doesn't seem fast to you, this number means that Best Computer Ever can do 10 million million million million million million million computations per second!
How long shall we let the Best Computer Ever run in order to do our bidding? Let's again take the best possibility; let's run it for the entire time our Universe has existed - about 14 billion years, which is about 1018 seconds. So if we take our Computer, which is made using all the matter in the entire Universe and operates at the fastest possible speed, and runs for the duration of the life of the Universe so far, it would be able to compute about 1080 x 1043 x 1018 = 10141 bits. Just to be safe, let’s multiply this by a billion. We now have a Computer that can do up to 10150 bits of computation. Now this is a tremendous number. In words it's about a trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion.
Given this huge number, shouldn't this be enough computing power to compute anything that's possible to compute? Actually, there are lots of problems that are too big for the Best Computer Ever! For example, suppose you're a chess player and you'd like to know for certain what the best first move is for White. Maybe it's Pawn to King Four or Pawn to Queen Four, or maybe some other move. So you ask the Best Computer Ever to check out every possible chess game and report back the best move. Sorry Charlie, but the Best Computer Ever won't make a dent in the problem, even if it ran for the entire time our Universe existed. It's estimated that there are around 10600 chess games; this is so much bigger than 10150 it would give an Archangel a headache.
There are lots of problems like this that are too big for our Best Computer Ever. Ever heard of the Traveling Salesman Problem? Here's a brief description of it. Suppose a salesman named John is supposed to go to a number of cities in order to sell a certain widget. He is given a table that has these cities and the distances between them. For example, suppose the cities are Dallas (D), Cleveland (C), New York (N) and Atlanta (A). The table might look like this:

Of course, John would like to know the shortest route to take that starts and ends in Dallas and visits each city exactly once. In our example, it's not too hard to figure out, even for a human. (We leave the correct answer to the reader). But let's say that John is very aggressive, and wants to work for a year and then retire. To be able to retire, he wants to visit a different city a day for one year - 365 different cities. So John creates a spreadsheet with the distances between the cities, and has our Best Computer Ever run a program to tell him the shortest route to take. Sadly, John will not be retiring in a year, or two, or even a million, because our Computer will be nowhere near determining the shortest route, even if it started running just after the Big Bang.
Let's do one last example of Big Computer's limitations. Suppose you got onto a Star Trek website and found a picture of Captain Kirk fighting with Spock. Let's say the resolution is 300 x 400 pixels (not that good) and that it's in black and white. Thus there are 120,000 pixels that are either on or off. Now you ask Best Computer Ever to randomly generate pixel values that create black and white pictures and stop when it generates the picture of Captain Kirk fighting with Spock. You could let the Computer run until our Universe fades away, and a billion more universes after that, and almost certainly you won't randomly generate the Kirk/Spock picture.
So here's the point: No matter who, no matter where and no matter when, there will always be problems that best computers will never be able to solve.

Introduced in July 1985, the Amiga 1000 was created in part by Jay Miner, who previously designed the Atari 400 and Atari 800. The Amiga was originally designed to be a killer game machine, but it was so great that it grew into a real computer.

The Amiga 1000 was a quantum leap above any other system out at the time, as it included a 32bit pre-emptive multi-tasking GUI (Graphic User Interface), 4 channel stereo sound, 880k 3-1/2 inch floppy disks, and video modes which provided up to 4096 colors at once. The Amiga can even display multiple screens at different resolutions on a single monitor, all at the same time.

The Amiga quickly became a favorite for graphic artists and animators since its multiple co-processors allowed it to do complex images and animations that other systems, with the exception of expensive workstations, just couldn't handle.

Truly the most advanced and capable computer of the era. Unfortunately, due to poor marketing and lack of IBM or MS-DOS compatibility, the general public did not take much notice of it.


So not only was it technically a great computer but personally for me i used it for a great deal of my childhood mainly for games but later got into so much more once i added harddrives etc and started using AmigaOS :)....many good memories from the Amiga days and that is why it is the best computer, at least for me and many other people :)

I had one of those Amiga 1000 and it had pretty good games too! Right now my brother has it and it still run good!

I don't think I am breaking any NDA when I say that qaboss/EA has for a while been using extra beta keys as awards for winning competitions or being generally brilliant.

Obviously the intention is that you can give them to your friends, but I have seen no disclaimer that said friend cant be the first guy who agrees with you that some ancient abacus is the best computer ever. Or the local wino on the corner for that matter.

Like everybody else they will have to agree to the Beta rules.
